Construction workers hurt at Ursinus College
Two workers were injured Thursday morning while working on the new science and policy building.
COLLEGEVILLE » Two construction workers were injured Thursday morning while working on a new science and policy building at Ursinus College.
The accident occurred around 11:37 a.m. when the workers, both of whom are employed by Kinsley Construction, were attempting to weld a steel trellis on the fourth floor of the campus’s Innovation and Discovery Center, according to college media relations manager Ed Moorhouse,
“Essentially two center sections of the trellis collapsed and fell on two of the workers,” Moorhouse said.
One of the workers was airlifted to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia and the other was transported to the trauma center at Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown. There was no immediate word on their conditions.
Following the incident, Moorhouse said, construction on the building was stopped pending an ongoing investigation.
The Trappe, Collegeville, Limerick and Perkiomen Township fire companies responded to the scene.
“Kinsley Construction is deeply saddened by today’s events at the job site,” said Ciara Young, general counsel for Kinsley Construction. “At this time our safety team is on site with OSHA and Ursinus College personnel investigating the incident and conducting interviews. Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of the injured workers and their families.”
