Blue Bell: Explore the cosmos during Montgomery County Community College’s free community nights at its researchgrade Observatory and Observation Deck. Community nights will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 11, Oct. 16 and Nov. 13. The Observatory and Observation Deck are features of the college’s 60,000 square-foot Advanced Technology Center. The Observatory features a 16-inch MEADE SchmidtCassegrain telescope and several other telescopes on the Observation Deck. Community nights are free and open to the public, and astronomy clubs and scout troops are welcome. The Observatory is located on the third floor of the Advanced Technology Center, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike. The observatory sessions are subject to weather conditions. Call the Observatory hotline at 215-641-6460 an hour before the event for information about possible cancellation. Royersford: Vendor Bingo hosted by Angel Flight East will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Friendship Fire Co., 269 Green St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and games begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes a free wildcard sheet. Be sure to mention Angel Flight East at the door. Proceeds from this event support the mission of Angel Flight East to arrange free air transportation for children and adults who need medical treatment far from home. New Hanover: Noted food historian Alan Keyser will be the speaker for the New Hanover Township Historical Society’s program at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the School House, Reifsnyder Road, by the Swamp Creek Park. His topic, “Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking Through the Year,” is an illustrated talk supported by a lifetime of research and writing on Pennsylvania German themes. Keyser is known to be the most authoritative local researcher and author on Pennsylvania Dutch folk-culture. Visitors welcome.
