Melange contemporary dance performs favorites at SALT Performing Arts
Melange Contemporary Dance performs “The Best of Melange” at SALT Performing Arts on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 3 and 7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. The Performing Arts Center is located at 1645 Art School Rod, Chester Springs, 19425. This will be the company’s debut performance in this newly renovated theater.
Under the direction of international dance artist Michelle Jones Wurtz, a cast of seven of the area’s most talented dancers will bring to life the music of Nina Simone, Rush, Franki Goes to Hollywood, Vivaldi, Sinead O’Connor, and African American artists covering some of The Beatles greatest hits. The pieces are all reconstructed selections choreographed by Wurtz and audience members helped to choose some of their favorites from over eight years of all original works.
Melange, which means “mix” in French, is an eclectic professional dance company based in the Tri-County Area. It was founded in 2009 as the resident dance company of the Steel River Playhouse as a contemporary dance troupe with a jazzy verve. Current dancers include: Hannah Brumbach, Madison Eichert, Kathy Kerner, Kelsey Patrick, Alexandra Roberts, Megan Schultz, and Daria Vartanian-Gibbs.
