Thomas Dareneau to speak on Trends in Contemporary Art
Thomas Dareneau will help viewers interact with new work and look into the critical process for viewing new and challenging pieces during a presentation focusing on Trends in Contemporary Art. He will discuss the differences between contemporary and modern art and why that distinction is important. He will then dive into the works of several contemporary artists whose work is a direct reflection of current global political and social concerns.
Pottstown Area Artists Guild is sponsoring this talk. It will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Boyer Gallery at the Hill School Center for the Arts at 766 Beech Street near the intersection of Beech and Sheridan streets in Pottstown. This event is free and open to the public.
Dareneau has been an art educator at the Boyertown Area Senior High School for seventeen years. He received his art education from Kutztown University and his Masters of Education from Gratz University in Philadelphia. For the last five years, he has been a member of Art21 Educators, a national team of teachers who work with educators, curators, gallery directors and artists to bring contemporary art and philosophies of education into their classrooms. Through his connection with Art21. Dareneau has lectured and held discussions on contemporary art education in New York, Penn State University, Kutztown University, Studio B and the State Theatre of Boyertown.
