Take a look at what friends and neighbors are saying about local hot topics and join in on the conversation.

Let’s review the current situation in Pottstown. The Brick House, a very fine business on our main High and Hanover Street corner is going to close up along with various other stores and shops that have closed. What is wrong here? Why can’t businesses last? Where is our mayor, our borough council, our state representative, our state senator? We have everything here — infrastructure, close to Route 422 but yet nothing can seem to make it here.

I‘d like to ask the people that drive on Route 422 through the construction zone when 40 mph meant to go 60, 70 or 80 mph? Just imagine if somebody blew a tire. Where are you going to go? You’re in a cattle chute. Please if you run 422 kiss your children before you go to work in the morning. Tim Moses

Does no one not see the danger at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue, North Adams and Warren streets? There’s parking on the north side of Jefferson Avenue and it is very, very dangerous with the volume of traffic, the buses, school has opened and the children going to the YMCA. Something needs to be done in that area because of the volume of traffic and this is a very dangerous and hazardous situation. Help. My life matters.

I agree with the callers, I do think that we are getting gouged by the oil companies. Gas just went up another six cents and the refineries I thought were back online again.

I think the Russians had something to do with the recent and proven Boston Red Sox cheating scandal. I’m calling for a complete congressional investigation. I bet too the Russians helped Sen. Menendez obtain all those free gifts he received over the years.

As far as Nancy Pelosi wanting the Confederate statues taken down because the people who represent them are traitors, it’s kind of funny. She should have had a long talk with her father and her uncle way back when they were living because they were both mayors of Baltimore where Nancy’s from. They’re the ones that approved of the erection of these Confederate statues while they were mayors. I wonder if she had any objection to it then? JT

Could someone please tell me why all of the illegal immigrants do not become U.S. citizens so that they could stay here legally?

The person that called Sound Off and said that Robert E. Lee did not own slaves did little homework on the subject. There are many places where you can find information on the subject including smithsonian.com. In a letter to his wife Lee wrote that “Slavery was worse for white people than it was for black people and that it was necessary for black people to endure slavery for now anyways so that they might be civilized.” Clark S. Kent

This is for Pottstown Borough Public Works Department. Stop dumping your old sewer lids and dirt on property that you know is not yours. You have a new garage, dump it there.

OK callers, a little economics 101 lesson about gas prices. When gas is plentiful and the refineries are running, gas prices are low. When a hurricane causes refineries to shut down, gas is not as plentiful and prices begin to rise. There is no gouging. This is just supply and demand.

Just finished watching the evening news and I understand that FEMA is definitely going to be running out of money. I’m just curious to know what they’re going to do about Mar-a-Lago if they take a big hit in Florida. Concerned Citizen

Facebook now reports that Russia spent $100,000 on the 2016 election on Russian propaganda to elect Trump. Jay Miller

I’d like to make a correction. I said the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ founder was Joseph Smith. That was actually for the Mormons Latter Day Saints. I’m sorry about that. Actually for the Jehovah’s Witnesses it says in Wikipedia that their Bible teachings are from a guy named Charles Taze Russell who’s a founder of a Bible Student movement. That’s where they get their ideas from. Sorry about the mistake.

All through the Obama years, the AC on my old car would not work. In Trump’s first year now it comes on and works fine. Things are getting better. Bruce Madara

To Jim Dandy regarding your comment in Thursday’s Sound Off, much appreciated and well said brother. Lady Di

I would just like to say to the Coventry Christian School parent when the speed limit sign is blinking 15 mph that means drive 15 mph. Don’t honk your horn at people who are driving at that mileage and wave your finger even though you go to a Christian school. Very sad, sad, sad.

Dreamers — just another Obama nightmare.
