No easy solution for economic quagmire

- — Clayton M. Leister Boyertown

Once “deficit spending” commands the budget most recovery taxis become regressive resulting in even greater losses. We have lost our important storefront businesses; and, virtually all products are manufactured in China.

All of my neighbors have purchased goods shipped to their house via Amazon; and, they do not pay a sales tax. One of my neighbors bragged to me about their purchases made out-of-state given the fact that they do not pay sales tax. Other neighbors drive to Delaware for their liquid refreshments and again do not pay Pennsylvania tax.

Once we as a state get into the economic sinkhole everything becomes regressive sinking us further into debt.

My suggestion to you is to look at curbing spending. Your retirement funds paid managers outlandish money for very poor returns while Vanguard would have achieved more for less.

Also, charge townships and other areas for state police protection. At the same time provide incentives for local police to enforce existing laws. My borough police drive past violations upon a regular basis and refuse enforcement given the lack of incentive.

In conclusion, what Pennsylvania does to resolve our economic quagmire will most likely send us further into the sinkhole.

Have you checked your retirement plan recently?

P.S. Another local Pennsylvania judge has been indicted for theft and will be serving hard time behind bars for his conduct. Presently, Pennsylvania is the fourth most corrupt state based upon indictment of public officials. I sincerely hope that recent indictments will not hoist us into third spot.

Also, some of our religious institutions are sitting upon some unsettling ground. I pray those reports to be untrue given the fact that we need divine support like never before in history given the insidious corruption that is destroying us.
