Spring-Ford, Methacton advance to PAC golf final

Ben Pochet maintained mastery of his home course Tuesday while leading the Spring-Ford boys golf team to a 188-197 victory over Owen J. Roberts.

Pochet shot a three-under-par 33 at Turtle Creek Golf Club, in one of two Pioneer Athletic Conference “Final Four” playoffs on the day’s slate. Complement­ed by 38s from teammates Jack Straub, Luke Watson and Nate Pierce, it was sufficient to move the Rams into Thursday’s championsh­ip match against Methacton.

Ryan Glenn went even par to lead the Wildcats, whose only sub-40 round was turned in by Ward McHenry (38).

Thursday’s final will be at Gilbertsvi­lle Golf Club, with a 2 p.m. start. METHACTON 195, POPE JOHN PAUL II 205 » Nick Martin carded a 35 to lead the Warriors past the Golden Panthers in their PAC Final Four playoff semifinal match.

Martin was followed in by Methacton teammates A.J. Thomas (38) and Andrew Catania (39). Davis Antoniuk was low man for PJP at 37, with teammates J.T. Spina and Greg Hiriak adding 39s.

PHOENIXVIL­LE 197 » Lily Byrne earned low-score honors for the Whippets as they handled the Phantoms in their PAC Final Four match at Whitford.

Byrne carded a 40 to lead West, which also got a 43 from Shea Cabaddu to go with 45s from Grace Hickey and Sarah Fernandes. Morgan Frampton was Phoenixvil­le’s leader with a 42. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 182, GREAT VALLEY 195 » Liddie McCook turned in the match’s sub-40 round in leading the Cougars to victory over the Patriots in their PAC Final Four match at Honeybrook.

McCook carded a 38 to key East’s run to a championsh­ip-match showdown with Downingtow­n West. Amanda Heins was low for GV with a 46.

PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 4, DELAWARE VALLEY FRIENDS 1» A sweep of the doubles bracket proved key to the Panthers’ Tri-County League win over Delaware Valley Friends.

Perkiomen’s best individual showings came from Maki Ashizawa at third singles, and its first-doubles team of Molly Welby and Sherry Zhang. Both won in 8-0 pro sets.

Boys cross country

BOONE GOES 2-1 » The Blazers got a 4-5 finish from Zach Murray and Alex Pingitore as they beat two of three teams in their fourschool Berks Conference match. Boone topped Fleetwood (20-37) and Gov. Mifflin (23-33) while losing to Wilson, 25-32.

GM took the first three spots ahead of the Blazers’ leading duo, Jake Underwood running a 16:12 for the win. Anthony Defusco and Adam Davis were Boone’s third and fourth finishers with respective 12th and 14th-place runs. TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE » Perkiomen School got a secondplac­e finish from Kristopher Vass as it took first place in the eight-team standings of its home-course meet.

Vass covered the Perkiomen course in 17:53 to help the Panthers (51 points) outrun Collegium Charger (60), AIM Academy (61), Renaissanc­e Academy (1-2) and Barrack Hebrew (112).

BOONE GOES 2-1 » Vivian Kase’s seventh-place outing headed the Blazers’ solid run in their fourschool Berks Conference meet. Boone won its portions agaisnt Fleetwood (1550) and Wilson (26-33) but lost to Gov. Mifflin, 15-47.

Carlina Davis checked in with a 10th-place finish for the Blazers, with Sierra Rivera adding a 13th. TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE » Anne Coby placed second for Perkiomen School in a league meet on its home course.

Coby ran a 44:48 to edge out Kimberton’s Anna Devine (22:49) but finish second to Collegium Charter’s Paige Henry. Perkiomen was third in the team standings with 23 points, trailing Collegium (15) and Kimberton (20) but outrunning Renaissanc­e Academy (39).

Boys soccer

DANIEL BOONE 2, READING 1 » Luke Degenhart and Peter Scott scored to lead the Blazers (4-4, 6-8) over the Red Knights (2-6, 6-8) in Berks Conference play.

Evan Trani gave Boone eight-save goaltendin­g, yielding only Roandy Sanchez’ goal for Reading. PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 6, PHELPS SCHOOL 5 » Will Wang netted a hat trick to lead the Panthers’ Tri-County League victory over Phelps School. Fynn Svoboda, Sam Glavin and Brock Reber (one assist) completed Perkiomen’s scoring. Jake Dent, Sean McPherson and Benedict Esser were credited with other Panther assists.

KUTZTOWN 2, POTTSTOWN 0» Emily Bubbenmoye­r and Abby Reasoner scored second-half goals to lift the Cougars past the Trojans in their non-league game.

Emme Wolfel’s two-save goaltendin­g was the statistica­l highlight for Pottstown (2-11). LANSDALE CATHOLIC 2, METHACTON 1 » Kiera O’Sullivan and Kate Henesey each scored a goal as the Crusaders edged the Warriors in their non-league game. PHOENIXVIL­LE 6, AGNES IRWIN 1 » Jesi Rossman had two goals and an assist, and Leeza Galli added a pair of goals to head the Phantoms’ non-league victory over Agnes Irwin.

SPRING-FORD 3, POTTSGROVE 0 » In keeping with the spirit of its Senior Night, the Rams’ upperclass­men headed their PAC victory over the Falcons. SpringFord won by set scores of 25-11, 25-5 and 25-10.

The Rams’ statistica­l stars were seniors Senior Carly Swenson (10 assists, six kills, three aces), Alexis Palucki (nine aces, three kills), Lauren Stenson (eight digs, four aces) and Rachel Kearon (five kills, two aces). PERKIOMEN SCHOOL 3, COLLEGIUM 1 » The Panthers won their Tri-County League match with Collegium Charter in four games. Perkiomen went up 2-0 on its guests (25-19, 2515), then rebounded from Collegium’s 25-20 victory in the third set with a 25-15 verdict in the fourth.

Frances Del Toro had eight aces, using her jump serve, and also seven kills. Bianca Diaz had seven kills also and multiple impressive digs while Emalee Walsh played a smart game up front, winning many points off keys tips.
