PJP boys run to a victory over Pottsgrove

Led by Michael Florig’s first-place finish in 18:25, the Pope John Paul II boys cross country team ran to a 21-36 victory over Pottsgrove Wednesday.

PJP had four of the top five finishers in this Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division meet. Shane McKeon (18:26), Jack Phillips (18:31) and Jack Brosius (18:43) finished third through fifth. Pottsgrove’s Bryce Hampton took second with an 18:26 finish.

The Panthers finished the regular season 4-1 while leaving the Falcons 3-2. BOYERTOWN 15, NORRISTOWN 50 » Justin Smyth and Josh Endy led the Bears’ sweep of the first 10 places en route to a PAC Liberty Division run over the Eagles.

Smyth and Endy went 1-2 for Boyertown, both clocked at 18:07. Norristown’s top finisher was Ricarddo Moreno Alvarez, 11th in 19:06. UPPER PERKIOMEN 18, POTTSTOWN 41 » Cameron Junk blitzed the field, finishing more than a minute ahead of everybody else to lead the Indians’ win over the Trojans in their PAC Frontier Division meet.

Junk covered his home course in 16:54, more than 1-1/2 minutes ahead of second-place teammate Gage Gardner’s 18:26. Michael Baker was Pottstown’s top finisher, third in 18:30. PHOENIXVIL­LE 17, UPPER MERION 38 » The Phantoms got individual and team firsts in their PAC Frontier Division meet with the Vikings.

Sophomore Carlos Shultz ran a solid 17:30 on UM’s course to take individual honors. Phoenixvil­le (5-0) also made a perfect run through the Frontier Division, the finale further highlighte­d by a 2-3-4 finish from Gabe Pulea (18:03), Connor Wilchusky (18:03) and Zach Kleppe (18:15).

POTTSGROVE 27, POPE JOHN PAUL II 28 » Naomi Hillen ran the course in 20:45 for a first-place finish to lead the Falcons past the Golden Panthers in PAC action.

Pottsgrove teammates Amie Wildermuth (22:44) and Megan Czerpak (23:03) finished third and fifth, respective­ly. PJP was led by Julia Costello’s second place finish in 22:04 while Natalie Florig was fourth in 22:55. Amanda Murray and Zora Bergey, both clocked at 22:36, went 1-2 for Boyertown. Valeria Sanchez Vargas was Norristown’s top finisher, coming in 11th in 25:21. UPPER PERKIOMEN 23, POTTSTOWN 32 » Serena Detweiler literally ran away from the field in heading the Indians’ win over the Trojans in their PAC Frontier Division meet.

Detweiler covered her home course in 20:08, almost a minute faster than teammate LeeAnn Markwalter’s second-place 21:03. Hailey Christman was Pottstown’s first finisher, placing third in 21:41. UPPER MERION 17, PHOENIXVIL­LE 45 » June Sanchez and Amber Strouse went 1-2 to lead the Vikings’ PAC Frontier Division victory over the Phantoms.

Sanchez and Strouse went 1-2 with times of 21:15, followed by Veronica Sanchez in 21:16. Phoenixvil­le’s first finisher was Madison O’Neil, fourth in 21:44.

METHACTON 3, NORRISTOWN 0 » The Warriors picked up a PAC win by beating the Eagles with set scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-10.

Emma Eglinton had 28 assists and a pair of digs while Carli Ginther posted eight digs, five aces and two assists. Nicole Cooper had 12 digs and four aces along with seven kills and seven digs from Andrea Castaneda. UPPER MERION 3, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 » The Vikings swept their PAC match with the Wildcats by set scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-17.

Chloe Golas had five kills, two aces and two blocks for Owen J., which got three kills and one dig from Mikayla Johnson and 12 assists from Jordyn Chambers. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3, BOYERTOWN 1 » The Vikings celebrated their Senior Night with a PAC victory over the Bears. PV answered Boyertown’s 25-23 victory in the first set with scores of 25-22, 25-11 and 25-22. The Vikes were led by seniors Helena Clauhs (17 kills, nine digs) and Ellie Min (32 assists, 10 digs). Other seniors contributi­ng were Rachel Rood (seven kills), Jess Oltman (two kills, eight digs, two aces) and Kyle Pelzer (three kills, two digs). PHOENIXVIL­LE 3, POTTSGROVE 0 » Maple Maloney led the way with six aces, two kills and two digs as the Phantoms downed the Falcons in straight sets by set scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-8.

Also contributi­ng for the Phantoms were Alex Poloway (ace, five kills, dig), Mabel Hanna (ace, four kills), Heather Branan (three aces, three kills, three digs) and Kelly Brewer (ace, two kills, two digs).

DANIEL BOONE 6, READING 1» Madison Spitko and Hannah Starolis keyed the Blazers’ hard-charging first half on the way to their Berks Conference rout of the Red Knights. Spitko and Starolis each scored twice for Boone (46, 8-8-1), whose other goals came from Alyssa Breidigan (one assist) and Madalynne Forster. Nicole Brown, Cassidy Carroll and Jess Di-Giacomo were all credited with assists.

Boys soccer

ST. BENEDICT’S PREP 5, HILL SCHOOL 0 » Chris Kingston’s goalkeepin­g was the high point for the Blues in their non-league loss to St. Benedict’s Prep.

Kingston made eight saves for the Hill, which was making its second trip to New Jersey in 48 hours and facing a national power a second straight game. SBP built a fourgoal lead in the first half and had goalkeeper Aurie Briscoe needing to make just two saves to get the clean sheet.

GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 4, HILL SCHOOL 3 » Elena Zhang posted the Blues’ lone singles victory on the way to a non-conference loss.

Zhang won 6-4, 6-0 at first singles while the pairings of Carla Canales/Marina Mendez and Belle Ber-nhoeft-Gutierrez/Panna Kovacs posted wins at third and fourth singles, respective­ly.

HILL SCHOOL 241, EPISCOPAL AC. 246 » Echo Wu, Drew Steinmetz and Hunter Ramee all carded sub-40 scores at Gulph Mills Country Club to secure a nonleague win over Episcopal Academy.
