AMITY » On Thursday Oct. 12, 2017 at approximat­ely 1:03 a.m., Amity Township Police were dispatched to the area of Route 422 East at Old Airport Road for a single vehicle crash involving a car and a pole. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Jeep Compass with heavy front end damage in the middle of the roadway. The driver, a 24-yearold man from Pottstown, stated he was traveling east when he took his eyes off the road and crashed, police said. The Jeep struck a PennDOT sign before striking the traffic signal causing the power to the traffic light to go out. The driver refused medical treatment by Southern Berks Emergency Services personnel. The driver was not wearing his seat belt during the time of the crash and was operating on a suspended license, according to police. The operator was cited for multiple infraction­s of the Pennsylvan­ia Motor Vehicles Code.
