Mo­tor ve­hi­cle ac­ci­dent

AMITY » On Thurs­day Oct. 12, 2017 at ap­prox­i­mately 1:03 a.m., Amity Town­ship Po­lice were dis­patched to the area of Route 422 East at Old Air­port Road for a sin­gle ve­hi­cle crash in­volv­ing a car and a pole. Upon ar­rival, of­fi­cers ob­served a white Jeep Com­pass with heavy front end dam­age in the mid­dle of the road­way. The driver, a 24-yearold man from Pottstown, stated he was trav­el­ing east when he took his eyes off the road and crashed, po­lice said. The Jeep struck a Pen­nDOT sign be­fore strik­ing the traf­fic sig­nal caus­ing the power to the traf­fic light to go out. The driver re­fused med­i­cal treat­ment by South­ern Berks Emer­gency Ser­vices per­son­nel. The driver was not wear­ing his seat belt dur­ing the time of the crash and was op­er­at­ing on a sus­pended li­cense, ac­cord­ing to po­lice. The op­er­a­tor was cited for mul­ti­ple in­frac­tions of the Penn­syl­va­nia Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles Code.
