Lane closure scheduled on Route 422

LOWER POTTSGROVE » PennDOT has announced that drivers can expect a westbound lane closure on Route 422.

Westbound Route 422 motorists will encounter a right lane closure between the Sanatoga and Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) interchang­es in Lower Pottsgrove Township on Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., for bridge constructi­on as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish in October 2018.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor is building, in phases, new Route 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new Route 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchang­e; reconstruc­ting and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligen­t Transporta­tion equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.

J.D. Eckman Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
