Drug, alcohol violations lead crime in borough

POTTSTOWN » Drug and alcohol violations were the most reported crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemappi­ng.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, incidents involving drugs or alcohol were reported seven times since Oct. 10. Public drunkennes­s was reported three times over the past week on the 600 block of East High Street, the 1600 block of East High Street and Manatawny Street. Drug possession was reported three times on Center Avenue, the 300 block of Chestnut Street and Glasgow Street. One drug sale was reported on the 300 block of High Street.

Theft was the second most reported crime in Pottstown over the past week including three thefts from buildings and one attempted theft from a vehicle. Thefts from buildings were reported on the 600 block of North Charlotte Street, the 200 block of Shoemaker Road and the 500 block of North Franklin Street. The attempted theft was reported on the 500 block of North Evans Street.

Incidents involving disturbing the peace were reported three times since Oct. 10. One case of disorderly conduct was reported on the 100 block of South Franklin Street and two cases of harassment occurred on the 200 block of York Street and an unspecifie­d block of York Street.

Burglary was also reported three times, all involving forced entry. They were reported on the 900 block of North Charlotte Street, the 400 block of Chestnut Street and the 200 block of High Street.

Assault and DUI were each reported twice over the past week. DUI incidents occurred on the 800 block of Industrial Highway and Queen Street while assaults were reported on the 300 block of Cherry Street and Custer Court.

Vehicle break-ins, vandalism and vehicle thefts were each reported once. Criminal mischief to a vehicle and a vehicle break-in occurred on Beech Street along with a vehicle theft on the 500 block of Walnut Street.
