Hill School football falls to Blair

The Hill School football team’s winless campaign continued Saturday with a 40-20 home loss against Mid-Atlantic Prep League foe Blair Academy.

The Blues (0-3 MAPL; 0-7 overall) had the score tied 20-20 with about nine minutes remaining in the first half. From there, though, it was all Blair (2-1, 5-1). The Bucs picked off a pass and converted it into a score just before the half, then added a pair of touchdowns in the second half to seal it.

Darnell Fleury was a bright spot for The Hill in the loss. He scored the game’s opening touchdown and later ran back a kickoff return for a score to even it up at 14-14. Wes Midy had a touchdown run while Ian Lawrence had an intercepti­on.

Girls tennis

DISTRICT 1 » Methacton’s team of Dina Nouaime and Tina Prince saw their championsh­ip bid thwarted at Legacy, but they were able to place fifth in the District 1 Doubles Tournament.

Nouaime and Prince started the day by losing to Conestoga’s Priya Aravindham and Olivia Dodge in the quarterfin­als, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. But they rebounded in their consolatio­n match with Downingtow­n West’s Holly Koons and Lily Shi, the Warrior tandem won in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

Playing for fifth place against the Harriton duo of Mackenzie Sherman and Shaina Ginsberg, Nouaime/ Prinice came out on top.

The Pope John Paul II team of Dominique Marracau and Jillian Boyle saw their winning run through the Class AA bracket halted by Lower Moreland’s Ally Cheiken and Elizabeth Berzin. The Cheiken/Barzin duo won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 in their semifinal to qualify for the title match against Villa Maria’s Brooke Simonson and Gabby Persechino.

HILL SCHOOL 3, BLAIR AC. 2 » The Blues scored three unanswered goals in the second half to claim a comeback win against Blair.

The Hill’s three goals in the game’s final 25 minutes came from Euan Forrest, who scored in the 61st minute and again on a penalty kick in the 79th minute; and Greg Zimmerman, found by Patrick Ryan 95 seconds into the OT period, to end the match.

PENNCREST 2, POPE JOHN PAUL II 1 » Avery Cotter’s second-half goal was the Golden Panthers’ total offense in a non-league loss to the Lions.

Colleen Morton and Anastasia Kormos shared time in goal for PJP. Morton had five saves and Kormos four.

Boys water polo

HILL SCHOOL 15, PENN CHARTER 5 » The Blues scored nine goals in the game’s first 10 minutes to set the tone for their non-league victory over Penn Charter.

Michael Schiavone scored first for Hill and finished with four goals. Patrick Dunn, Walter Lehneis, Ben Roth and Thomas Stone combined for eight goals.

Boys cross country

HILL SCHOOL 21, BLAIR AC. 37 » Alex Valle claimed the individual win for Blair, but the Blues scored the MAPL victory with a tight pack following.

Austin Vincent led the way for the Hill in second place. He was followed by teammates Tucker Dunn, Jamie Olson and Shahzaib Umer in third through fifth place, with Olson and Umer recording personal records.
