Bridge construction to close Route 422 lanes
LOWER POTTSGROVE » Route 422 drivers can expect lane closures next week as more construction is planned for the Lower Pottsgrove area.
Eastbound Route 422 motorists will encounter alternating right and left lane closures and a traffic shift from just west of the Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) interchange to the Armand Hammer Boulevard interchange in Lower Pottsgrove Township on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., for bridge construction. The work is part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish in fall 2018.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.
Under the $73 million project, PennDOT’s contractor is building, in phases, new Route 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new Route 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/ Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.
