Mary Elizabeth (Sands) Umstead, 91, of Pottstown

Mary Elizabeth (Sands) Umstead, 91, of Pottstown, PA, widow of Clyde F. “Lefty” Umstead, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Sanatoga Center, Pottstown, PA. Born in Pottstown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Richard Sands and the late Mary (Bomberger) Sands.

Mary Umstead was a 1944 graduate of Pottstown High School. She was employed as a secretary with Pottstown School District for several years. Mary was the great-granddaughter of one of the founders of Ursinus College. She was a member of the Pottstown Doe Club, and a volunteer for the Pottstown Meals on Wheels and the Relay for Life.

Surviving is one son, Jeffrey D. Umstead and his wife Joanne, Limerick; two daughters, Judith A. wife of Bruce Miller, Gilbertsville; Janet L. wife of Greggory Tobias, Tucson, AZ; one sister, Margaret Dalgleish, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Brian M. Miller, Heather L. DeAngelis, Kyle A. Umstead, and great-grandchildren, Cory Miller, Jared Miller, Evan Miller and Sophia DeAngelis.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
