Remaining races in Berks, Chesco and Montco
This election season, The Mercury has based its election preview coverage on a web-based questionnaire in order to facilitate contacting more than 130 candidates running for office in at least 28 contests.
In some races, all the candidates responded; in some races, just a portion, and in exactly four — none responded at all.
Here is a recap of the races where candidates did not respond:
Berks County
In Washington Township, two candidates are seeking one open seat on the board of supervisors. They are incumbent Democrat Ernest Gehman and Republican challenger Thomas Powanda, according to Berks County election records.
Chester County
• Although there is no contest for borough council seats in Spring City — four incumbent Republicans are unopposed for reelection — there is a contest in the mayor’s race. According to county election records, incumbent Republican Michael Weiss is being challenged by Democrat James Burns.
• In West Vincent Township, two candidates are running for a seat on the board of supervisors
Montgomery County
Upper Prov idence Township has two local races on Nov. 7.
The first has four candidates running for two open seats on the board of supervisors with full six-year terms.
Republican incumbent Lisa Mossie and Republican Paul F. Newlin III, are facing Democrats Lisa Higgins and John Pearson.
One of those seats is new and the result of last year’s approval by voters of a measure to expand the board of supervisors from three to five seats.
Two existing seats are not up for election this year.
The second race is for another new seat, this one with a four-year term. In that contest, Democrat Helen Calci is facing off against Republican Kevin Holohan.
From this point forward, all seats will carry six-year terms and those terms will be staggered so there will be a township election every two years for two or one open seat.
