Nighttime closures planned for Route 422 next week
Route 422 east will be closed for several nights as construction projects take place throughout next week.
Eastbound Route 422 in the Pottstown area will be closed and detoured for several nights next week for barrier installation and resurfacing operations as part of a project to improve and reconstruct 1.2 miles of Route 422 from just east of the Schuylkill River bridge to just west of the Montgomery County line in North Coventry Township, Chester County, West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, and Douglass Township, Berks County, PennDOT announced.
On Monday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 8, through Friday, Nov. 10, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., eastbound Route 422 will be closed and detoured from the split with Benjamin Franklin Highway in Douglass Township, Berks County, to Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) in North Coventry Township, Chester County. During construction, eastbound Route 422 motorists will be directed to continue on Benjamin Franklin Highway/ High Street and turn right on Route 100 South (Pottstown Pike) to access the ramp to eastbound Route 422.
In addition to the closure of eastbound Route 422, the ramp from the Stowe Interchange (Grosstown Road) to eastbound Route 422 will be closed on Monday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 8, through Friday, Nov. 10, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ramp from the Stowe Interchange (Grosstown Road) to westbound Route 422 will also close on Monday, Nov. 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
During the ramp closures, motorists will be directed to use High Street to access eastbound or westbound Route 422.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on Route 422 the work area overnight because backups will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT is reconstructing Route 422 on both existing and new alignments; reconfiguring the Route 422/Stowe Interchange to a diamond configuration; removing and replacing the existing ramps and culverts; installing new Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, message boards, signing, pavement markings, lighting, concrete median barriers, median glare screens and guide rail; upgrading storm water management facilities and pipes; and constructing and restoring wetlands.
H & K Group Inc. of Schwenksville, is the general contractor on the $35,581,408 improvement project which is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89, Pennsylvania’s Transportation Plan. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.
