William Henry Cook, 64
William Henry Cook, 64, passed away at Pottstown Hospital on Sunday, November 5, 2017.
Bill “Cooker” was the youngest son born to the late Fred E. and Helen (Givin) Cook in Pottstown on March 6, 1953.
Bill was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, class of 1971. There he excelled as a three sport varsity athlete, earning All ChestMont honorable mention in football, Co-Captain of the basketball team, and was the leading hitter on the baseball team. He was proud of the part he played on OJR’s 1970 championship football team, especially during the annual and most memorable Thanksgiving Day game against Pottstown. During his school years he was president of the Audubon Society, and member of the Gridiron Club. After graduation he continued playing sports in many recreational leagues in the area, worked for Doehler Jarvis , and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for almost forty years beginning in Devon, PA, and ending at the Pottstown Post Office.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting for deer & turkey, fishing, and bird watching. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Philadelphia Flyers, old movies, and The Three Stooges. He was a member of the National Rif le Association, and Pottstown Quoit Club.
Surviving is his wife of 31 years Kathy (Detar) Cook, and daughters whom he loved dearly, Katie Lee and Melissa Elizabeth, also siblings Fred E. Cook, Jr. and his wife Lyn, Pottstown, Donald Cook and his wife Joan, Boyertown, Eva wife of Joe Ramsey, Pottstown, Ella wife of Bill Finlaysm, Eustis, FL, and a sister in law, Araw Cook, Reading, plus many cousins, nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Cook, and a nephew, Bobby Cook.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday November 25, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hanover & Walnut Streets, Pottstown. Officiating will be the Reverend Phillip Waselik. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church.
