Barbara A. Highley

Barbara Ann Highley passed away peacefully in her home in Perkiomenville, PA on November 26, 2017 surrounded by family. Born November 20, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Roger Sylvis and Edith Carey Mahoney; and spent the early part of her childhood exploring South and Central America. Following the passing of her parents, she and her brother, Roger, were adopted into the family of Winfield and Isabelle Cook. She is predeceased by her parents and her adopted sister, Nancy.

Barbara graduated from Plymouth Meeting High School, where she was a 4-year varsity player for both field hockey and lacrosse. Following graduation from high school, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Childhood Education from Penn State University.

Married to Richard Lee Highley for almost 55 years, Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She found great joy in her family and throughout her life, she continued to teach, support and mentor her children. Extremely fond of animals, she became devoted to wildlife preservation. She also supported several other charities including St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Autism Speaks, Better Breathers and the Wounded Warrior Project.

She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Highley Sr.; her brother, Roger Cook (Florence); her four children, Carey Highley, Rick Highley, Scott Highley (Brandi); Cindy Helverson (Scott); and her grandchildren, Kyle Highley, Jake Highley, Rachel Helverson, Brock Helverson, McKenzie Kelly, Jordon Highley and Shaun Highley. She was a much loved wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
