Stabbing suspect nabbed at border
PHOENIXVILLE » A man police say was responsible for the brutal stabbing of a woman in Phoenixville was apprehended by border patrol agents attempting to flee to Mexico.
Francisco Hernandez, 32, of Warminster, was arrested Monday after police say he was located at the U.S. border, attempting to enter into Mexico.
At 6 a.m. Monday, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended Hernandez at the border crossing in Brownsville, Texas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations officers said in a release Monday that “officers at midbridge received from Mexican immigration officials a male pedestrian from Guatemala that lacked entry documents to traverse Mexico. Officers referred the man for secondary inspection to confirm his identity and citizenship.”
Once officers conducted a fingerprint check, they verified the identity of the man as 32-year-old Leovigildo Alvarado Castanon,
AKA Francisco Hernandez, a citizen of Guatemala, wanted in Phoenixville on an outstanding five-count warrant.
Hernandez was turned over to the Cameron County, Texas, Sheriff’s Department to await extradition back to Chester County.
“Our frontline officers maintain strict vigilance while conducting their inspectional duties and that dedication and attention to detail resulted in the apprehension of a man wanted for attempted homicide in Pennsylvania,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry in the release.
Hernandez was wanted by Phoenixville Police for the Nov. 8 stabbing that occurred at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Morgan streets. When they arrived, officers found a 36-year-old female with multiple stab wounds to her torso and extremities. Police determined she was stabbed while seated inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church, located on Main Street, between Washington Avenue and Morgan street.
Police also recovered the weapon at the scene.
The victim underwent emergency surgery at Paoli Hospital.
Police have not identified a possible motive for the incident.
Hernandez is being charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of a weapon.
