Drug, alcohol violations lead crime in past week

POTTSTOWN » Drug and alcohol violations were the leading crime in Pottstown leading into December.

According to crimemappi­ng.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, substance violations were reported eight times over the past week. Four incidents involved drug possession and were reported on the 500 block of East High Street, the 400 block of Walnut Street, Robinson Street, and the 900 block of North Hanover Street. Three drug sales were reported on the 300 block of King Street, the 300 block of Beech Street and East High Street along with a case of public drunkennes­s on the 900 block of Glasgow Street.

Theft was the second most reported crime in Pottstown this past week. Two retail thefts were reported on the 300 block of East High Street and the 300 block of Manatawny Street. A theft of bicycles was reported on the 500 block of North Franklin Street along with a theft from buildings on the 1600 block of East High Street. A theft of auto parts was also reported on North Washington Street.

Robbery was reported three times over the past week including two incidents of strong arm robbery on South Roland Street and the 300 block of East High Street. A robbery involving a knife was also reported on South Franklin Street.

Two non-aggravated assaults were reported since Nov. 28. Those assaults occurred on the 300 block of Chestnut Street and North Franklin Street.

Vandalism, burglary, weapons offenses, harassment and vehicle thefts were each reported once over the last week. A burglary involving forced entry was reported on the 500 block of North York Street as well as an incident involving criminal mischief to vehicles on the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue. One weapons offense was reported on the 200 block of East High Street along with an incident of harassment on Franklin Street and a vehicle theft on West King Street.
