LOWER POTTSGROVE » Police Chief Michael Foltz and the township commissioners recently accepted a monetary donation from the estate of Sandra Babel, who resided in Chester County until the time of her death in September 2014.

Babel was born and raised in Lower Pottsgrove, where she resided with her family, including her father, Lew Babel, mother Marie Babel and sister Christine Babel.

She graduated from Pottsgrove High School in 1986 and went on to pursue a degree in accounting, with a minor in finance, through Immaculata College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her bachelors degree in 2001, achieving a GPA of 4.0. She was inducted into Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society after making Dean’s List.

Babel began working for Jones Motors Corp. upon graduating high school. She later landed a career with SMS Corp. in Chester County and eventually climbed the corporate ladder at Siemens Corp. to a position in senior management in 2014.

Babel was actively involved in volunteering and charity during her short life. She volunteered

at Sanatoga Fire Company as well as the Lower Pottsgrove Historical Society. She enjoyed sharing her prosperity with those in need and devoted her life to giving onto others. Sandra supported various charities throughout her lifetime both physically and financially in her hometown of Chester Springs.

She was an exquisite cross stitcher and jewelry designer, often giving her jewelry as gifts and donating to charity for their silent auction.

Unfortunately, Sandra Babel died unexpectedly due to medical complications in September 2014. Even in death she continued to give back to others through the Gift of Life, sharing with many people in need through organ and tissue donation.

Honoring Sandra Babel’s wishes her family donated nearly $15,000 to the Lower Pottsgrove Township Police Department from her estate.

The family indicated that Sandra Babel would have wanted to protect the local police officers who are sworn to care for the citizens of this great community where she grew up. Thus, an agreement was made whereas the department would utilize the funds to outfit each police car (13 cars) with “Active Shooter Kits” which contain hard body armor, carriers, trauma packs and extra ammo magazines, as well as two ballistic shields. The items have already gone into service.

Chief Foltz, was a personal friend and schoolmate of Sandra’s. In honor of the donation the chief teamed up with Paul Stolz, who is a sales representative for The Officer Store of Coatesville, and the vendor who supplied the equipment, to personalize the donated equipment in remembrance of Sandra.

Chief Foltz and Mr. Stolz donated patches that were designed by Lower Pottsgrove Township Police Administrative Assistant Jennifer Griffith and have attached them to the vests that will be worn by the officers – signifying not only her donation but how she would want to protect the officers in eternal life.
