Female driver charged after striking police car

A Lansdale woman is facing DUI and related charges after she allegedly struck a police vehicle on Route 422.

AMITY » Police have charged a woman after she allegedly slammed into an occupied police vehicle while driving under the influence.

Police have charged Lisa Schultz, 48, of Lansdale, after she and a police officer were taken to the hospital for injuries related to the crash.

At approximat­ely 9:41 p.m. on Dec. 18, Amity Township Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on the 1300 block of East Benjamin Franklin Highway (Route 422) at the on-ramp to the highway.

Responding officers discovered a West Pottsgrove Police vehicle was occupied and stationary at a set of barricades, closing the on-ramp for constructi­on near the Berks/ Montgomery/Chester county line. A Ford F-250 truck was traveling east and struck the police vehicle while attempting to enter the highway, police said.

Officers located the driver of the Ford F-250 inside the truck and identified her as Schultz.

Schultz and the West Pottsgrove officer were each transporte­d to Reading Hospital in West Reading for injuries sustained in the crash.

Police have not publicly identified the West Pottsgrove officer.

Schultz was charged with DUI, aggravated assault while DUI, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug parapherna­lia and numerous related traffic offenses. She was unable to post the set $50,000 bail and is being held at Berks County Prison.
