LOWER POTTSGROVE » A local inhome care agency for the elderly has been recognized by Caring. com as a “Caring Star of 2018.”

Right at Home, which opened in 2015, is one of 253 Caring Stars awarded across the nation. The annual list recognizes service excellence among in-home care agencies.

Right at Home provides inhome, non-medical care for clients in parts of Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties. Those services include personal care, bathing, grooming, transporting clients in the home and outside, running errands or grocery shopping.

“We know it’s a total team effort and the care giving team deserves the credit,” said Steve Gettins, who owns the agency with his wife Christina. “When we look at the reviews — 80 to 90 percent of them name a specific caregiver. That personal connection makes the difference.”

Gettins said the agency is focused on providing the right care for its clients.

“That care starts with the right team and that team starts with people. We are putting ourselves out there to provide the best care for our clients,” he added.

Right at Home has served the region since December 2015, when the couple purchased a Right at Home franchise in Chester Springs and then expanded, relocating the company headquarters to Lower Pottsgrove.

Since opening two years ago,

Right at Home has grown to a staff of 125 employees — up from about 28, according to Gettins. The agency serves clients within a 30mile radius of Pottstown.

“It’s a great location to attract caregivers and provide

the right kind of reach to our clients,” Gettins said.

Gettins said that while there are no immediate plans to expand the business, the need for quality in-home care is not going away.

“There is plenty of growth opportunity in what we have. Our goal is to employ great people in the Pottstown area and take

great care of people in their homes. There is still plenty of need,” he said, adding that the feedback the company has received, “helps us shape the future.”

The couple decided to open an in-home care agency after very personal experiences within their own families.

Steve Gettins described watching his mother serve

as the primary caregiver during his father’s battle with cancer. He said that at the time, he was unaware that homecare was available.

Gettins’ wife Christina had a similar experience — moving in with her grandfather to act as his primary caregiver in the final years of his life.

To qualify for recognition

as a “Caring Star of 2018,” agencies must have 10 or more consumer reviews on Caring.com and an overall average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, according to the organization’s website. Caring.com is a resource for caregivers seeking information and support as they care for aging parents, spouses and other loved ones.
