PennDOT plans lane closures on Route 422

- Digital First Media

Right lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages are planned for westbound Route 422.

A right lane closure with periodic 15-minute traffic are scheduled on westbound Route 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning for a sign structure installation related to a major project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry Route 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, PennDOT announced today.

In addition to the restrictions on westbound Route 422, the left lane is scheduled to close on the ramp from westbound Route 422 to Route 363 (Trooper Road) on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers should allow additional time for travel in the construction zones because backups and delays will occur. The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent.

The scope of work on this project includes improving Route 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with Route 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges.

Construction on this improvement project began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $97.4 million project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
