Richard T. Toth, 78, of Pottstown, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, at home. He was the husband of Margaret “Peg” Toth. Born in Phoenixvil­le on May 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Margaret and Louis Toth.

A graduate of Phoenixvil­le Area High School where he excelled at baseball, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, playing catcher on the Marine’s baseball team. He was a tire builder at the former Firestone plant in Pottstown, retiring from Occidental Chemical Corp. in 2005. He was especially happy to retire on the same day the Philadelph­ia Eagles last played the in Superbowl.

He was an avid Philly sports fan. In addition to the Eagles, he also supported the Phillies, Flyers and 76ers.

Rich loved the outdoors. He was a true sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being in the woods. A lifelong member of the Frontier Archery Club, he was also a champion archer.

He spent many summers as a “weekender” at Leisure Point in Long Neck, DE, enjoying the Back Bay as well as deep sea fishing.

After retiring, he spent weekday mornings having coffee with “the guys” at the North End Burger King.

Rich was a devoted son, husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Kathy Toth and Kim Toth, both of Douglassvi­lle; brothers, David Toth, husband of Patricia, of Phoenixvil­le, and Louis Toth of Parker Ford; brother-in-law Robert Rhoades, husband of Colleen, of Pottstown; sister-in-law, Carole Rhoades of Douglassvi­lle; cousins; nieces, and nephews. He was predecease­d by a sister, Delores Kisch.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 18, 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius RC Church, 223 Beech St., Pottstown. Burial will be private and at a later date. As per Richard’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in his honor to your favorite charity.
