PAC wrestlers drop to wrestlebac­ks at Escape the Rock

Boyertown and Owen J. Roberts each advanced four wrestlers into Sunday’s action in the Escape the Rock Tournament at Council Rock South ... all in wrestlebac­ks.

For the Bears, Jacob Miller (182) and Elijah Jones (195) both reached the quarterfin­al round of their weights before losing. Julien Maldonado (106) and Zak Reck (220) won third-round consolatio­n bouts.

Owen J. Roberts has Antonio Petrucelli (138), Daniel Mancini (152), Ricky McCutchen (160) and Jason Zollers (170) in the mix off third-round consolatio­n victories. BCIAA » Canton Dolla came up just short of claiming a weight-class title for Daniel Boone in the county’s Individual Championsh­ip tournament at Reading High.

Dolla was edged by Brandywine Heights’ Bailey Gimbor in the 106-pound final, 1-0. The Blazer freshman was his team’s lone wrestler to reach the gold-medal round.

Behind Dolla, Boone got a third-place showing from Sam Zummo at 126 and fourth from Tom Lynagh at 220. The Blazers’ other top placers were Terrell Sanders at 152 and Colby Pyle at 160 (both fifth), and sixths from Chase Ring (113), Dan Salguero (120) and Dylan Holland (170).

The Blazers were fifth in the team standings with 110 points. Exeter, with three individual champions and 12 placers, won the team title with 229.50 points. SPRING-FORD 69, PHOENIXVIL­LE 10 » The Rams put on a pinning clinic in their PAC divisional crossover match with the Phantoms, scoring falls in seven of nine contested bouts they won.

Josiah Chapman started off the pin parade at 138, and Ben D’Arcangelo (152), Tyler LaRocca (220), Matthew Lepore (285), Brandon Meredith (120), Jack McGill (126) and Dirk Nugent (132) kept it going. Louis Carbajal added a technical fall at 195, and Michael Gradwell a major decision at 170.

Phoenixvil­le’s points came from an Alex Washington pin at 160 and Antonio Valenteen major at 106. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 45, UPPER PERKIOMEN 30» The Vikings prevailed over the understaff­ed Indians in their PAC divisional crossover pairing, a slew of forfeits reversing UP’s early lead.

The Tribe got off to a 24-3 lead through the first six weights, upping it to 30-15 two bouts later. But PV finished up by accepting forfeits in the final five weights to go along with pins by Austin Rowley (145) and

Kevin Lovett (152) as well as P.J. Kakos’ decision at 120.

Upper Perk owed part of its early advantage to pins by Joey Carpenter (106), Jared Kuhns (113), Jarek Svanson (132) and D.J. McIlvanie (160).

Girls basketball

HILL SCHOOL 48, PEDDIE SCHOOL 39 » The Hill School girls basketball team had four starters score in double figures Saturday. Those outputs made the difference for the Blues, who parlayed them into a Mid-Atlantic Prep League win.

Alexa Giacche and Bridget Mayza had 12 points each for the Hill, which ran its record to 2-1. Maia Lockhart and Steph Percy both chipped in 11 points apiece. CONRAD WEISER 44, DANIEL BOONE 32 » The Scouts pulled away in the fourth quarter to top the Blazers in the Frontiersm­en Classic.

D’erra Townes scored 15 points, and Grace George had eight for Conrad Weiser. Madison Spitko led Daniel Boone with 10 points. LANSDALE CATHOLIC 61, POPE JOHN PAUL II 45 » The Crusaders came on stronger in the second half of their non-league game with the Golden Panthers, using a 33-point stretch run to expand their 28-23 first-half lead.

Elise Sylvester scored 13 points to lead PJP. POTTSGROVE 52, SUN VALLEY 27» Sydney Mowery and Summer Walker combined to equal the Vanguards’ total point production in their non-league pairing.

Mowery scored a gamehigh 16 points while Walker added 11. Their efforts were key to Pottsgrove opening a 26-20 halftime advantage that went to 41-23 heading into the fourth quarter. SPRING-FORD 52, CUMBERLAND VALLEY 39 » With Lucy Olsen and Abby Goodrich each scoring 12 points, the undefeated Rams used an 18-point third quarter to break out of a tie with the Eagles and win this nonleague game.

Along with the gamehigh outputs of Olsen and Goodrich, Spring-Ford got another 10 from Rachel Christman. They were key to Spring-Ford going up 3827 after three quarters, the clubs knotted at 20 at the half. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 62, OWEN J. ROBERTS 50 » The Cougars used a 15-5 edge in second-quarter scoring to overtake the Wildcats and win this non-league contest.

Diana Rantz scored 21 points to lead Owen J., which led the first quarter 14-10 but was 5-for-10 from the line for all its second-quarter scoring. Olivia LeClaire chipped in with another 16.

Boys basketball

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 44, OWEN J. ROBERTS 27 » Tyler Strechay scored 16 points, and Dante Graves 12, to lead the Vikings’ win over the Wildcats in their reschedule­d PAC Liberty Division game. METHACTON 67, POTTSGROVE 51 » Jeff Woodward hit the nets for a gamehigh 22 points, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double, to lead the Wildcats’ win over the Falcons in their PAC divisional crossover contest. CONRAD WEISER 45, DANIEL BOONE 41 » The Blazers jumped out to a 12 pointlead after a quarter, then saw the Scouts battle back to come away with the victory in their Berks Conference pairing.

Chaunce Johnson scored 11 of his game-high 23 points for Boone (3-10) at the start. Weiser went 11of-15 from the line in the fourth, including two by Josh Taatjes with three seconds left to ice it. WHITEHALL 60, BOYERTOWN 52 » Even with Marcus Thomas netting gamescorin­g honors, the Bears fell short of the Zephyrs in their non-league outing.

Thomas hit for 20 points while Jerry Kapp added 15. But Boyertown couldn’t completely answer Whitehall’s 25-22 first-half lead. UPPER DARBY 62, SPRINGFORD 61 » Even with Nestor Diaz and Noah Baker combining for 43 points, the Rams fell short of the Royals in their non-league contest.

Diaz scored 23 to lead Spring-Ford, with Baker following at 20. The Rams used a 34-25 edge in second-half scoring to cut into UD’s 37-27 halftime advantage.

Girls ice hockey

HILL SCHOOL 1, GILMOUR AC. 0 » Playing a tight game with Gilmour for the second time in as many days, the Blues came out on top when Jessica Ciarrocchi converted a shorthande­d goal late in the first period.

The tally, paired with another outstandin­g performanc­e by goaltender Sophie Goldberg, enabled the Hill (12-7) to get the sixth win of the season against teams the program has not previously beaten.

Co-ed swimming

HILL SWEEPS » The Blues won versus Ursuline Academy and Salesianum School.

The girls continued their unbeaten streak, and the boys picked up their second win of the season. Hill won every event except the boys’ 200 and 50 free.

First-place winners for the girls’ team were the medley relay of Paige Curcio, Paige Swartz, Cassidy Beeding and Maddie McKean; Brigid Donnelly in the 200 free and 100 free; Curcio in the 200 IM; McKean in the 50 free and 100 fly; Olivia DeVol in diving; and Sarah Wentling in the 500 Free. Also, third former Bess McAlpin made her first Easterns cut in the 100 Back.

First-place winners for the boys’ team were the medley relay of Michael Wong, Walter Lehneis, JooYeob Kim, and Michael Schiavone; Alfonso Mestre in the 200 IM and 100 fly; Philip Kershner in diving; Schiavone in the 100 free; Lehneis, 500 free and 100 breast; the 200 free relay of Kim, Robert Twombly, Schiavone and Mestre; Wong in the 100 back; and the 400 free relay of Kim, Wong, Lehneis and Mestre.
