Pennypacke­r, Tornetta rally Methacton girls basketball past Boyertown 42-39

Olivia Pennypacke­r hit a late 3-pointer and Sydney Tornetta scored the goahead bucket with 13 seconds left as the Methacton girls basketball team secured a 42-39 come-frombehind win over Boyertown on Thursday night in Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division play.

Pennypacke­r led the way with a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds while Tornetta added 11 points as Methacton overcame a 2215 halftime deficit. Nicole Cooper added eight points in the win while Abby Penjuke grabbed seven boards. Boyertown’s Jen O’Connor led the way with a teamhigh 10 points while Victoria Boalton added eight. SPRING-FORD 77, NORRISTOWN 34 » Eleven different players got on the stat sheet as the Rams downed the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division play.

Dez Engle scored a gamehigh 12 points for SpringFord while Abby Goodrich followed with 10 and Rachel Christman had nine. Lucy Olsen, Sarah Cooper and Cassie Marte had eight points apiece as SpringFord got out to a 46-19 advantage by the half. Beyonce Collins led Norristown with 10 points. UPPER MERION 50, POTTSGROVE 20 » The Falcons were held to single figures in each quarter en route to a PAC Frontier Division loss against the Vikings.

Jordan Wilson led a trio of double-digit scorers for Upper Merion with 16 points while Tymeriah Stanton had 11 and Amya Anthoney added 10 to help take a 26-12 lead by the half. Emma Yaccarino and Sierra Potts led Pottsgrove with seven points apiece. POPE JOHN PAUL II 63, VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 57 » Elise Sylvester scored a gamehigh 24 points as the Golden Panthers used a 4328 second-half advantage to down the Hurricanes in non-conference action.

Sylvester scored 17 of her points during the second half while Monica Rapchinski added 12 points on the game and Lauren Ciuba had 10. PJP trailed 2920 at the half as Abby Walheim scored a team-high 22 points for Villa while Paige Lauder added 11. UPPER PERKIOMEN 48, COVENTRY CHRISTIAN 39 » Sierra Kelly and Kaitlyn Mundy combined for 30 points to key the Indians’ non-league victory over Coventry Christian.

Kelly had 18 points and Mundy 12 to help their team open a 17-6 lead in the first quarter. Lexie Hallman got a game-high 19 for Coventry, with Gabriela Hallman adding another 12. PHOENIXVIL­LE 34, WEST CHESTER EAST 28 » Jasmine Hamilton produced a double-double to help the Phantoms win their non-league game with the Vikings.

Hamilton had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenixvil­le, Peyton Graham added another 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Boys basketball

WILSON 45, DANIEL BOONE 33 » The Bulldogs led by 15 at the end of the first half and went on to handle the Blazers in this Berks Conference matchup.

Bryce Calloway scored 12 points and Stevie Mitchell had 10 for Wilson, which won its fifth straight. Chaunce Johnson was the high scorer for Boone with eight points, Jared Tranovich adding seven.

Wrestling

DANIEL BOONE 42, OLEY VALLEY 30 » The Blazers won the last four bouts on the card to knock off the Lynx in Berks Conference action.

Trailing 30-21, Tom Lynagh (220) won by decision, Brady Barton (285) scored a fall, Canton Dolla (106) won via forfeit and Chase Ring (113) scored a fall to lift Boone (3-1, 6-3) to the victory.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 113, METHACTON 70 » Nolan Benner had two individual wins and was a part of two first-place relays during the Bears’ PAC win over the Warriors.

Benner touched first in the 200 free (1:53.35) and the 100 fly (54.90) and also swam legs of the 200 free relay (1:40.71) and 400 free relay (3:24.30). Aaron Keifer was also part of both relays and finished tops in the 50 free with a time of 23.56. READING HIGH 89, DANIEL BOONE 75 » Chris and Joe Guiliano each won two individual events to key the Blazers’ showing in their Berks Conference meet with the Red Knights.

Chris took the 200 free (1:48.80) and 100 free (49.05), with Joe winning the 50 free (23.10) and the 500 free (5:11.77). They both swam legs of Boone’s winning 400 free relay, which clocked a 3:30.28.

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 113, METHACTON 70 » Gabrielle and Grace McKee each won pairs of individual events to head the Bears’ PAC win over the Warriors.

Gabrielle got her firsts in the 200 IM (2:15.74) and 100 fly (1:02.23) while Grace won the 200 free (2:06.42) and 100 back (1:03.20). READING HIGH 109, DANIEL BOONE 67 » Rachel Woomer and Madison Griffin accounted for the Blazers’ first-place finishes in individual races in their Berks Conference meet with the Red Knights.

Woomer won the 100 fly in 1:01.34, and Griffin did the same in the 100 back (1:07.56). Griffin also swam the anchor leg on Boone’s winning 200 medley relay (2:01.81).
