Carl Russell ‘Smitty’ Smith, 80

Carl Russell “Smitty” Smith, 80, of Maidencreek Township died January 22, 2018 at Penn State Health – St. Joseph, Bern Township.

He was the husband of Diane Elizabeth (Meeker) Smith, to whom he was married May 25, 1957.

Born June 13, 1937 in Perkiomenville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Harvey and Miriam (Cramer) Smith.

Carl was employed as a machine operator with Dana Corporation, Reading, for 27 years, retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed music; especially playing the organ with the “Keys of Life” and fishing, and was a member of the United Automobile Workers.

Surviving are his three children: Timothy A. Smith of Birdsboro; Keith A., husband of Gail Smith of Pottstown and Dawn A., wife of Floyd Stahl of Florida.

Other survivors include his three siblings: Kenneth Smith of Birdsboro, Richard Smith of Spring Mount and Rose Mary of Florida.

There are also five grandchildren: Charlotte, Divine, Taylor and Brandon and three great grandchildren.

Carl was predeceased by his granddaughter: Heather Stahl; two brothers, Harvey and Stanley and his sister, Betty.

Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Oley was in charge of arrangements.
