Area congregations schedule special services and events
St. Eleanor RCC
Collegeville: A Mass for those suffering from addiction will be held at 11 a.m. today at Saint Eleanor Roman Catholic Church, 647 Locust St. Confession at 10 a.m. and Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament from 10 to 11 a.m. All are invited.
Christ Lutheran
Barto: There will be a Town Hall Congregational Discussion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the social hall at Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, for members of the congregation. The Confirmation Class and the youth will lead the congregation in the worship service, deliver the message for the day, as well as the Children’s Sermon at the 7:45 and 10:15 a.m. services on Sunday.
Thomas Paine Unitarian
Collegeville: Millicent Sparks brings Harriet Tubman to life at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Thomas Paine Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The event is free and open to the public. Tubman, the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad, helped thousands of enslaved Africans escape to freedom. Sparks imbues accounts of significant events in Tubman’s life with a sense of Tubman’s personal qualities. At the conclusion of her portrayal, Sparks interacts with audiences, responding in character to questions about Tubman’s life in slavery, the Underground Railroad, and the Civil War. Sparks develops and produces researched living history performance programs with special emphasis on the African American experience. An accomplished actor/writer/producer and lifelong history buff, she has performed on local, regional and international stages and in film and on television.
First Presbyterian
Pottstown: The Celtic Choir will be singing during the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. The Annual Congregational Meeting will be held immediately following worship.
Centennial Lutheran
Kimberton: The Annual Congregational meeting will be held after the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Centennial Lutheran Church, 1330 Hares Hill Road. A celebration luncheon will follow the meeting.
St. Luke’s Lutheran
Obelisk: The Annual Congregational Meeting and luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall at 11:15 a.m. following the 10:15 a.m. worship service at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Route 73 and Neiffer Road.
First UCC
Royersford: Austin Gross will be the guest organist at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday at First United Church of Christ, 367 Washington St. The Annual Congregational Meeting will also be held. All are welcome.
St. James Lutheran
Limerick: Junior and senior high youth from St. James Lutheran Church, 93 Kugler Road, will participate in a day of service today. They will plan the meal, shop for groceries and prepare the meal which will be served at Ministries at Main Street Shelter in Pottstown. The annual Congregational Meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The contemporary worship service will start at 8:45 a.m. and the traditional service will start at 11 a.m.
Shepherd of the Hills
Bechtelsville: A one-day retreat for the confirmation class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 527 Hoffmansville Road.
St. Peter’s Lutheran
Pottstown: The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 564 Glasgow St., to discuss John Grisham’s book “The Rooster Bar.” Light refreshment will be served in the church parlor.
St. Luke Lutheran
Gilbertsville: Safe Place training will be held at 9 a.m. today at St. Luke Lutheran Church. This is held for all council members, staff members and those who volunteer with children and youth at the church. The Congregation Council will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today for a retreat.
Zion’s UCC
Pottstown: The January shelter at Zion’s United Church of Christ, Hanover and Chestnut streets is grateful to friends and members who again supported our guests in this mission as it comes to a close. The church’s Pictorial Directory with both members and church activities is nearing completion. Committee members include Barry and Sue Embody, Brian and Joan Miller, Sharon Moser and Pastor Austin. Due to the in-house computer process and loose leaf format, pictures can be added and updated as needed. Thank you to all who helped.
St. John’s UCC
Pottstown: The annual Congregational Meeting and Meal will be held immediately following the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 11 S. Price St. All members are encouraged to attend. Beginning Feb. 1 the church will be hosting the homeless and providing nightly meals. The collection of items for the CWS Hygiene Kits continues under the direction of the Mission Committee.
Mount Carmel UMC
St. Peters: Guest speaker, Reverend Barry Moyer, will be delivering the message at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 2203 Harmonyville Road. Refreshments will be served after the service. Everyone is welcome. Volunteers will be working at “In Ian’s Boots” at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. For more information call 610-4599151. Brownback’s UCC Spring City: The Youth Handbell Choir will be performing along with the Good News Singers at the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday at Brownback’s United Church of Christ, 640 Ridge Road. The Annual Congregational Meeting will be held following the service. The Annual Congregational Luncheon will follow the meeting in Fellowship Hall.
Trinity UCC
Pottstown: Beginning this week, the office hours for Trinity Reformed Church, 60 N. Hanover St., will be changing. The office will be closed each Monday from now on. Hours Tuesday through Friday will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All other times will be by appointment only. Light refreshments will be served after the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.
Bethel Community
Pottstown: It’s Youth Sunday at 10:30 a.m. when the youth/young adults of Bethel Community Church of Pottstown, 575 N. Keim St., will lead in worship and the Young Sounds of Praise will be singing. Guest preacher will be the Reverend Alexander Cole, a son of Pottstown.
