By the closest of margins, Upper Perkiomen’s wrestling team maintained its high standing in the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s Frontier Division Thursday.

The Indians, who finished in a three-way tie atop the division last winter, repeated that feat when they hosted Pottstown in a regular-season finale that also served as Senior and Youth Night. This time around, however, they were proclaimed Frontier Division champions with a 34-24 win over the Trojans.

Scoring 28 unanswered points through the night’s first six weights, UP (4-1 division, 5-3 PAC) secured the win despite contesting only three of the last eight bouts. Both teams forfeited 182 and 195, and the Tribe’s final points came when DJ McIlvanie was awarded a forfeit at 160.

UP holds a tiebreaker of head-to-head competition with Pottsgrove. When they met during the regular season, the Tribe won the match 39-38 — the decider McIlvanie’s pin at 160.

Matt Martin, Jarek Kuhns and Gavin Marks scored falls in succession from 106 to 120 to get the Indians off to their fast start. Ryan Rossiter, Jarek Svanson and Zach Rozanski followed with decisions between 126 and 138 — Svanson’s verdict at 132 a major.

Pottstown (2-3 division) got on track with back-toback decisions from Anthony Wiggins (145) and Robert Richards (152), and a pin from Zach Griffin (170). Isaiah Williams and Tom Doyle closed out the match for the Trojans by accepting respective forfeits at 220 and 285.

UP’s top finish came in its first season under the direction of Steve Adam. The Trojans’ next action will be Saturday at the Upper Dublin Invitational. METHACTON 35, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 27 » Jorge Carmona and Kibwe McNair fueled the Warriors’ match-ending rally for victory over the Vikings in their PAC Liberty Division finale.

Trailing PV by a 27-25 count through 120, Carmona scored a major decision at 126 to give Methacton its third lead of the night. McNair followed with a second-period pin at 132 that secured the win for Methacton, whose early scoring featured pins by Roman Moser (152) and Nicholas Chan (106).

Jakob Sterling (182), Willie Mathis (195) and Stephen Coleman (120) all scored pins to lead PV.
