OJR girls shine at PAC Championsh­ip meet

The Owen J. Roberts girls swim team won five events Friday on the way to placing first in the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s championsh­ip meet at Perkiomen Valley.

Mikayla Niness scored a pair of individual firsts for OJR in the 50 free (24.34) and 100 free (53.39), Abbey Malmstrom headed the 500 free (5:22.16) and Meredith Mutter won the 100 breast (1:07.32). Roberts’ 200 free relay of Madison Gadzicki, Lilia Crew, Malmstrom and Niness took first in a time of 1:40.49.

Winners of other individual events were Boyertown’s Grace McKee (200 free, 1:57.72) and Hannah Shaner (100 back, 1:01.63) as well as Phoenixvil­le’s Erini Pappas (200 IM, 2:09.08; 100 fly, 57.19). Phoenixvil­le won the 200 medley relay (1:50.61) and Boyertown the 400 free relay (3:43.01).

Owen J. led the team standings with 57 points, followed by Boyertown (46), Phoenixvil­le (30) and Methacton (15).

Wrestling

PAISAA » The Hill School had three wrestlers reach the semifinal round in their respective weight classes through the opening day of the Pa. Independen­t Schools Athletic Associatio­n’s (PAISAA) tournament at Malvern Prep.

Cody Craig (113), Austin Vincent (126) and Kyle Gorant (132) all remain in the gold-medal hunt when the tourney resumes Saturday. The Hill also has Ted Kennedy (120), Wyatt Hare (145) and Anthony Martinez alive in consolatio­ns, each going 2-1 on the day.

West-Mont Christian has Austin Hallman (170) reach the semifinal round aand Brad Burpe (182) still going in wrestlebac­ks off a 2-1 day.
