Elizabeth P. Potter
Ocean Grove, NJ - Betty, 95, went peacefully into her eternal reward on Thursday, February 22, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late James C. Phillips and Edna Fifer Phillips. She was the wife of the late William G. Potter to whom she was married 56 years.
Betty was a graduate of Frankford High School in Philadelphia, attended business school and worked as a private secretary before accepting a position at the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company. She married Bill Potter in the Bala Cynwyd Methodist Church.
When her first son was 14 months old, she moved to Phoenixville, PA, where her father owned a Cadillac-Oldsmobile agency and employed her husband Bill. They joined the Phoenixville Methodist Church where Betty taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, sang in the choir and was president of the UMW.
When Betty’s husband died (12/25/02) she sold their home in Phoenixville and moved permanently to Ocean Grove, NJ, where she sang in the auditorium choir, was an active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, served as a volunteer at the Historical Society and attended everything that went on in Ocean Grove.
Betty will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family. She was a loyal and caring friend to those who were close to her.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister, her brotherin-law, a nephew, a niece and two great grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Professor William James Potter of Santa Barbara, CA, Reverend Jill S. Magnuson of Ocean Grove, NJ, and John D. Potter of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Phoenixville First United Methodist Church (865 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA) at 11am on March 6th, interment to follow immediately in Morris Cemetery. There will be a memorial service for Betty in Ocean Grove during this summer.
