Phoenixville police respond to 48 calls over three days

Phoenixville Police responded to 48 calls for service between Feb. 23 and Feb. 25. The following are notable incidents listed by the department:

• On Feb. 23 at 4:51 p.m., Officer Clements observed a road rage incident unfold on Fillmore Street. The driver of a Subaru station wagon was driving up the street in the opposite lane and keeping pace with a woman in a blue sedan. The officer stopped the Subaru and learned that the driver was upset because he felt the blue car cut him off in Collegeville, police said. The driver of the blue car explained that the Subaru was tailgating her since they left Collegeville so she was glad to see the officer. The driver of the Subaru, a 62-year-old Phoenixville man, was issued tickets for careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

• Police responded to the Acme on Starr Street on Feb. 23 at 6:28 p.m., to investigate a shoplifting complaint. The assistant manager reported that the store had been hit by a seafood bandit twice in the past two days. On Feb. 21, the thief swiped $246 worth of crab legs, lobster and assorted fish and he made off with another $146 worth of seafood that evening, police said. Officer Knapp reviewed the store video and was able to identify the shoplifter as Richard Hughes, 39, of Phoenixville. The officer located Hughes at Burger King and arrested him. Hughes was sent to prison after failing to post $2,500 bail.

• On Feb. 23 at 10:01 p.m., police responded to the Holly Court Apartments to investigate a report of marijuana smoke coming from an apartment. Officers could smell a strong odor of body spray and a faint odor of burnt marijuana in the common hallway but could not determine which apartment it was coming from.

• On Feb. 23 at 10:58 p.m., police received a tip that a wanted man was inside a home in the unit block of Kenalcon Drive. Officers went to the home and arrested Jonathan Tague age 26 on a Chester County bench warrant.

• Officer Brown encountered an intoxicated individual stumbling up the sidewalk in the 300 block of Bridge Street on Feb. 24 at 12:34 a.m. The 23-year-old Spring City man was issued a summons for public drunkenness and released to his mother at the police station.

• On Feb. 24 at 1:28 a.m., Officer Komorowski found a man sleeping is his parked car in the 200 block of Gay Street. The 25-year-old resident fell asleep in front of his house and he agreed to go inside for the rest of the night.

• On Feb. 24 at 1:57 p.m., a resident in the 100 block of Persimmon Lane reported that he let his neighbor borrow his Giant grocery store rewards card and the neighbor is now avoiding him and won’t return the card. The officer recommended that he have the card deactivated.

• Police responded to a traffic accident on W. Bridge Street near Deger Avenue on Feb. 24 at 3:09 p.m. The driver of Toyota Rav4 turned left in front of a Nissan Maxima traveling straight on W. Bridge. Both drivers were taken to the hospital and both cars had to be towed. The driver of the Rav4, a 40-year-old Phoenixville man, did not have a driver’s license, police said. The driver was issued tickets for driving without a license and vehicles turning left.

• On Feb. 24 at 3:23 p.m., police responded to a home in the 200 block of Morgan Street for the report of a domestic dispute. A couple had been arguing and the boyfriend grabbed the girlfriend by the neck and pushed her to the floor, police said. The boyfriend, 36, of Phoenixville, was issued a summons for harassment and he agreed to leave for the night.

• Police responded to a home in the 300 block of Buchanan Street for a domestic dispute involving a 53 year old mother and her 21 year old son on Feb. 24 at 7:19 p.m. During the argument, the son kicked the glass door on the oven and busted it out. The son agreed to leave the house for the night.

• On Feb. 25 at 12:06 a.m., a resident at the Phoenix View apartments reported that he was trying to get into his apartment but there was a loose dog in the hallway that looked aggressive and would not let him in. Sgt. Gold was able to get past the dog and located the owner who did not realize his pet slipped out the door.

• On Feb. 25 at 12:11 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of Mill Street called 911 and reported that “a drunk man wearing fancy clothes” was knocking on his front door. Officer Brown located the man, a well-dressed 39-year-old Philadelphia resident, and arrested him for public drunkenness, according to police. The man became unresponsive at the police station and had to be taken to Phoenixville Hospital by ambulance.

• A motorist reported that he was driving in the 1100 block of Ross Lane when his water bottle fell on the floor and got wedged under his brake pedal on Feb. 25 at 7:26 p.m. The driver, age 18 of Phoenixville, could not stop and hit a parked car. He was not injured in the collision.

• On Feb. 25 at 4:52 p.m., an off-duty State Trooper reported that a woman was smoking marijuana while walking on the shoulder of S. Second Avenue. Officer MacDonald pulled up to the woman and she tossed the roach into a puddle, police said. The woman told the officer that she always smokes when she takes her walks. The 30-year-old Schuylkill Township resident was charged with the drug violation.

• On Feb. 25 at 10:30 p.m., a resident reported that he sent an intimate photo of himself to a woman he met on Facebook and the woman threatened to post the photo if he didn’t make a donation to a charity in Africa. The resident was informed that he was probably the victim of a scam and should block the woman on Facebook, police said.
