Perk Valley, Spring-Ford drop state seeding games

The Spring-Ford and Perkiomen Valley girls basketball teams will each head into next week’s PIAA Class 6A playoffs with a loss fresh in their minds.

Despite a late push, SpringFord fell to Garnet Valley in the District 1-6A Third-Place Game, 65-64 on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Perkiomen Valley fell to Upper Dublin, 47-44 in the district’s Ninth-Place Game.

The Rams (24-4 overall) led 3130 at the break before the Jaguars pulled away with a 24-13 advantage in the third frame.

With the result, Spring-Ford will tentativel­y face District 11’s fourth seed, William Allen, in the

opening round of states on Friday, March 9 at a site and time yet to be determined. Garnet Valley will take on District 3’s fourth seed, Elizabetht­own on Friday at a site and time still to be determined.

Perk Valley (21-8 overall) held a 20-14 advantage at the half but was shaken by Upper Dublin’s 22-15 advantage in the third quarter.

Megan Jonassen led the Vikings with a game-high 19 points. With 3:40 left in the third quarter, the senior surpassed 1,519 career points, putting her ahead of KT Armstrong (‘16) and into second place on the program’s all-time list.

Taylor Hamm added 13 points while Kelly Owens scored six.

For Upper Dublin, Dayna Batasa scored a team-high 19 points — 15 during the second half — while Jackie Vargas added eight.

With the result, Perk Valley is tentativel­y slated to face District 11 champ Freedom High School in the opening round of states next Friday at a site and time yet to be determined.
