MCCC HOLDS FIFTH ANNUAL TRI-COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION

Students from 14 high schools in Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties are showing their best artwork at Montgomery County Community College’s Fifth Annual Tri-County High School Art Exhibition and Competitio­n in the College’s Fine Arts Gallery, North Hall, 16 High St., Pottstown.

The exhibition opened Feb. 28 and features 130 pieces in an array of media, including paintings, drawings, photograph­y, digital photograph­y and design, ceramics and mixed-media, three-dimensiona­l works. The exhibit is free, open to the community and continues through March 31.

“This show is now in its 5th year and continues to grow each year. I look forward to the energy and excitement that the teachers and students bring to such a large group exhibition,” said Patrick Rodgers, galleries director. “Our juror, Bob Hakun, did a great job zeroing in on some significan­t pieces for awards of merit, and we congratula­te those student winners. We also thank all the teachers and students for their efforts with this exhibit--it’s a fun and fascinatin­g show when you put it all together.”

Awards were presented to the following students for their artwork: “Little Red Barn,” Mariah Sweeney, The Hill School; “Sister,” Fallon Brown, Methacton High School; “Scissors,” Emilee Grob, Methacton High School; “Bowie,” Jane Minor, Owen J. Roberts High School; “Plastic Waste,” Rachael Vince, Owen J. Roberts High School; “Sitting on Top of the World,” Sana Kewalraman­i, Perkiomen Valley High School; “Christmas in Whoville,” Olivia Luna, Pottsgrove High School; “Rememberin­g,” Regina Abucay, Spring-Ford Area High School; Self-portrait, Morgan Evans, Springfiel­d Township High School; Self-portrait, Abby Ryan, Springfiel­d Township High Schoo; “Tribute,” Ryan Hastings, Unionville High School; “Leaf & Flower Vessels,” Rachel Ioele, Unionville High School; “Slab Series,” Dakota Kilgariff, Unionville High School; Untitled, Henry Banyacski, Upper Merion Area High School; Self-portrait, Keith Davis, Upper Merion Area High School; “Snapdragon Serpentine,” Victoria Farrell, Upper Merion Area High School; and “Doughnut on the Edge,” Justin Kopp, Upper Merion Area High School.

This year’s juror of the show, artist Bob Hakun, is a member and past president of the Pottstown Area Artist Guild. He is a graduate of Kutztown University and holds a BFA in painting. His artistic expression has ranged from photograph­y to oil and acrylic painting to sculpture. He currently enjoys creating assemblage­s out of old discarded items and working on community projects, including the Pottstown Carousel and Phoenixvil­le Firebird.

The gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
