Police charge woman with DUI, homicide by vehicle
UWCHLAN » Police have charged a woman with DUI and homicide by vehicle in connection with a November 2017 fatal crash that took the life of a young mother.
Uwchlan police said they arrested Patricia Lynn Davies, 36, of Exton, for her alleged responsibility in the crash that killed a young mother and injured two others.
Uwchlan Township Police Department officers were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles on Worthington Road, east of Caernarvon Drive, at about 11:05 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2017. Police identified Davies, also known as Patricia Lynn Cooney, as one of the drivers and sole occupant in her vehicle.
The other vehicle was occupied by driver, Saheem Davis, his girlfriend, Shannon Lafferty, and their 4-yearold daughter. The occupants of both vehicles were transported to local hospitals for treatment, and Lafferty was later pronounced dead, according to police.
The victim’s relatives said that Lafferty, 30, a 2005 Downingtown East High School graduate, died in the crash after attending a Christmas tree-lighting celebration. Lafferty was in the back seat of the vehicle driven by her boyfriend, and she was buckled in next to her daughter.
Members of the Uwchlan Township Police Department Traffic Unit were assisted at the crash scene by members of the Chester County Serious Crash Assistance Team. Police said an extensive investigation into the cause of the crash ensued, and continued for months after the crash.
According to police and the online criminal report, Davies was arraigned on Tuesday before the Honorable Lori Novak Donatelli, and later released after posting 10 percent of a $25,000. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 20 in front of Donatelli. Davies has been charged with the following offenses: homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance; aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance; homicide by vehicle; aggravated assault by vehicle; recklessly endangering another person; driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance; possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; careless driving; reckless driving; and related offenses, according to police and the online criminal report.
The attorney listed on her criminal report was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.
