Lane closures planned for Route 100
Periodic lane restrictions are scheduled for next week as crews work to rehabilitate area bridges.
Periodic weekday lane restrictions are scheduled in both directions on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) between North State Road and Moyer Road in Upper Pottsgrove Township beginning Wednesday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as part of a project to rehabilitate the structurally-deficient bridge carrying Farmington Avenue over Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), PennDOT announced Friday. These periodic lane restrictions will continue through early June.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the construction area because slowdowns will occur. The work schedule is weather dependent.
The bridge carrying Farmington Avenue over Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) is scheduled to be closed and detoured this spring.
As part of the bridge rehabilitation, crews are repairing the existing concrete bridge deck using hydro demolition and applying a latex modified concrete overlay; replacing the existing deck joints; resetting the bearings; painting the entire steel superstructure; performing concrete repairs to the abutments; upgrading safety features and milling and paving the bridge approaches.
The Farmington Avenue bridge over Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) was built in 1964. The onespan, welded, steel-I beam bridge is 113 feet long, 45 feet wide and carries an average of 4,494 vehicles a day.
The structure is one of 11 bridges in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $5,505,505 project financed by Act 89, the state’s transportation plan.
Structures completed under this project include:
• Gypsy Lane over Interstate 76 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County;
• Northbound U.S. 1 over Church Road in New Garden Township, Chester County;
• Southbound U.S. 1 over Church Road in New Garden Township, Chester County;
• Cowpath Road over Perkiomen Creek in Salford and Franconia townships, Montgomery County;
• Township Road over U.S. 1 in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County;
• University Road bridge over U.S. 1 in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County;
• Spring Garden Street bridge over Interstate 76 in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County; and
• Terwood Road bridge over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County.
