Crash leaves man with minor injuries
LOWER POTTSGROVE » A rollover crash left oneman with minor injuries Sunday after his vehicle fell down an embankment.
Police said at 4:28 p.m. on March 18, Lower Pottsgrove Township Police were dispatched to the area of Sanatoga Station Road and South Pleasantview Road for a roll-over vehicle crash, with injuries. Officers arrived to the area and discovered the crash was located at 2113 Sanatoga Station Road. Officers found a white Toyota Sienna down the embankment leading to the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.
Officers located the driver and only occupant of the vehicle standing on the roadside, police said. Officers had Norfolk Southern contacted, and the trains in the area were stopped.
Members fromthe Sanatoga Fire Company and the Ringing Hill Fire Company also responded and assisted. The Sanatoga Fire Company secured the vehicle with a winch to prevent it from falling further down the embankment, onto the train tracks.
The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as Dennis Gabel, 79, of Royersford, reported that he had stopped to fix something on this vehicle. When he got out of the vehicle it was not in park. The vehicle rolled backward, with Gabel hanging on to it. Gabel hung on to the vehicle after it drifted backward. The vehicle struck a curb and mailbox, before veering backwards down the embankment. Gable was able to put the vehicle into park, and jumped away fromthe vehicle. The vehicle kept moving, and was held from falling down the cliff by roots and small trees, police said.
Gable sustained minor injuries.
Sanatoga Autobody responded and was able to retrieve the vehicle. The train tracks were opened up once the vehicle was safely on the roadway.
The witness statement confirmed the driver statement and crash investigation, according to police.
