PAC alums powering Temple women’s lax

Gebert, a 5-foot-7 midfielder, leads the team with 19 goals and has two assists to tie for the team lead in points with 21. She had two goals, including the game-winner in the Cincinnati victory and a goal in the Denver triumph. It was her third gamewinner this season. And, she has 20 ground balls, nine draw controls and nine caused turnovers.

“Maddie really came back as a mature player,” coach Bonnie Rosen said. “I think she learned a lot as a freshman and worked a ton over the summer to really work on her skill sets. She came back confident and is willing to take on the pressures of handling the ball whenever we need it.”

Cerchio, a 5-foot-8 midfielder, has 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points with 19 ground balls and four caused turnovers. She had a goal against Denver and two goals against Cincinnati.

“Jackie has done a tremendous job stepping into a starting role and handling it with the consistenc­y of an older player,” Rosen said. “She has the ability to elevate play, but most importantl­y, she just brings a consistenc­y of play on all parts of the field.”

Gensler, a 5-foot-3 attack, has nine goals and six assists for 15 points. She had a goal and two assists against Denver and a goal against Cincinnati.

“Kira has always been a vocal leader and as a senior, she brings both that natural leadership and her experience which is really helpful to this young group,” Rosen said. “She’s someone that holds the team accountabl­e, keeps them motivated and sets the example with hard work.” AMANDA KULP (METHACTON) » The speedy junior center fielder leads the St. Joseph’s softball team in hitting with a .321 average. She has started all 25 games and has 25 hits in 78 at-bats with a double, a triple, three runs batted in and 13 runs scored, which is tied for first on the team. She’s also stolen six bases in seven attempts and in the field she’s made just two errors on 51 chances (.961). The Hawks are 12-13 overall and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Kulp was an A-10 first team pick as a sophomore and a second-team selection as a freshman.

The senior scored three goals including one in the final minutes to tie the game and the 5-4 Shippensbu­rg women’s lacrosse team went on to beat Georgian Court in a non-league game 1110 in overtime last Thursday in Lakewood, N.J. Kengor had four goals and two assists in a 1712 PSAC triumph over Kutztown on March 27 and has 12 goals and five assists on the season. Freshman Maddy Siejk (Boyertown Area) had two goals including one in the final minute of regulation for the Raiders. She has 10 goals and four assists thus far. BROCK JOHNSON (BOYERTOWN) » The senior was named MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on March 26 for his play with the 3-4 King’s men’s lacrosse team the previous week. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound co-captain had three assists in an 11-10 loss to SUNY-Morrisvill­e March 22 in Wilkes-Barre and four goals and two assists in a 12-9 victory over Bryn Athyn on March 24 in Bryn Athyn. That gives Johnson 97 career goals and 154 career points, both King’s records. He has 57 assists, five away from the school record. This season, he has scored at least one point in all seven games and has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points. DAVID O’SUCH (SPRINGFORD) » The senior kicked off his outdoor season with the Duquesne men’s track team at the 49er Classic March 15-17 in Charlotte, N.C. O’Such finished 12th out of 79 runners in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.61. He also finished 28th out of 115 competitor­s in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.26. His personal record time in the 400 is 47.48 and his top effort in the 800 is 1:55.46. O’Such finished eighth in the 200 meter dash at the Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Championsh­ips as a junior last May. PAIGE BREHM (OWEN J. ROBERTS) » The 5-foot-7 junior midfielder is second in goals (22) and total points (30) for the Wesley women’s lacrosse team, the Wolverines 5-2 overall and 0-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play after a 20-4 league loss to No. 3-ranked Salisbury last Tuesday in Dover, Del. Brehm is also second in the three main field statistics with 18 ground balls, 17 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. In 30 career games, she has 52 goals and 15 assists along with 63 ground balls, 58 draw controls and 36 caused turnovers. DANIEL RIEGER (METHACTON) » The freshman posted a round of 92 for the Gettysburg men’s golf team at the spring season-opening Barefoot Invitation­al March 14-15 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Bullets finished third. The team’s next two tourneys were postponed due to bad weather and will be played this week. Rieger wrapped up the fall season by finishing tied for 39th to help Gettysburg finish first out of 14 teams at Randolph-Macon’s Keller Memorial Oct. 9-10 in Ashland, Va. He shot rounds of 73 and 87 for a 160 total. KATELYN CRESSMAN (POPE JOHN PAUL II) » The junior midfielder is having a solid season with the Seton Hill women’s lacrosse team, the Griffins 2-6 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play after a 9-8 league loss to Bloomsburg last Wednesday in Greensburg. Cressman is second on the team in goals with 12, has four assists and is second in points with 16. She also has nine ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. She had two goals and an assist in an 11-4 league victory over Edinboro on March 20 in Edinboro. MINUETTE LAESSIG (PERKIOMEN SCHOOL) » The Lehigh sophomore finished tied for 41st place out of 81 golfers to help the Mountain Hawks finished ninth out of 15 schools at William & Mary’s Kingsmill Intercolle­giate March 19-20 in Williamsbu­rg, Va. She had rounds of 75, 86 and 83 for a 244 total. Laessig finished tied for 14th at the Benbow Invitation­al to kick off the spring season Feb. 12-13 in Jacksonvil­le, Fla. She had back-to-back rounds of 79 to finish with a 155 total. TJ JEFFERIS (PHOENIXVIL­LE) » The junior is having another solid season with the No. 21-ranked East Stroudsbur­g women’s lacrosse team, the Warriors 4-2 overall and 3-1 in PSAC play after a 14-7 loss to No. 13 West Chester last Wednesday in West Chester. Jefferis has seven goals, a team-high 10 assists for 17 points with 13 ground balls, three draw controls and eight caused turnovers. She had a goal and a career-high six assists in a 16-4 league victory over Edinboro on March 25. She had 34 goals and 16 assists as a sophomore and 28 goals and eight assists as a freshman.
