LOWER POTTSGROVE » Diamond Credit Union Tuesday will kickoff a three-part series of information sessions designed for firsttime homebuyers. Coffee House Talk is being offered at locations in Montgomery and Berks counties over the next several months.

The first Montgomery County Coffee House Talk session — Preparing to Buy Your Home — is being offered April 10 at Connections on High, 238 E. High St., from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Coffee House Talk is an informal, “pull-up-a-chair get-together,” according to the company. The session will be hosted by Paul Yacobowsky, director of sales and Ben Huard from Diamond Credit Union’s mortgage team, along with area housing experts.

The Preparing to Buy Your Home session will address reviewing credit, developing a budget and pre-qualifying for a mortgage.

“The sessions are done in relaxed atmosphere that lets people speak openly and candidly,” Yacobowsky said in a Friday interview, adding that Diamond’s format is different from other similar events that are much larger.

“Maybe people aren’t comfortable with those big events that are more like presentations. This format allows us to be more intimate and they may ask more questions,” he added.

Yacobowsky said people can come and go when they want at Tuesday’s Coffee House Talk in Pottstown. He said during the event, he will talk one on one with each attendee and can answer questions — as can Huard

and the housing experts.

“It’s a very low key, very relaxed atmosphere conducive to what we want to give them and they want from us,” Yacobowsky added.

The free event is open to the public and will include coffee, light fare and casual conversation. It isn’t necessary to be a Diamond Credit Union member to attend.

The first Berks County Coffee House Talk installment took place March 13 in Sinking Spring. Yacobowsky said some people stayed five to 10 minutes, while others stayed longer. He added that Diamond Credit Union was happy with the turnout of that event and expects similar results in Montgomery County.

The topic for the second Coffee House Talk session is — Buying

Your Home, which will cover how real estate agents can help, the mortgage process and closing the loan.

The topic for the third session is — Things to Know About Buying Your Home, which will address home inspections, the role of the title company and mortgage insurance.

Dates for the second and third Montgomery County sessions have not yet been determined. A company spokesman said those dates will be finalized after the April 10 session.

The second and third Berks County sessions are scheduled for May 15 and Sept. 18 at Crave Café in Sinking Spring.
