John W. Hilbert, 88

John W. Hilbert, 88, husband of the late Mary E. (Yoder) Hilbert, passed away on Friday, April 6 at Frederick Living.

Born in Sassamansville, he was the son of the late John S. and Ella (Gerhart) Hilbert.

John was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sassamansville where he was in the choir, former council member and much more. He was also a member of Gilbertsville and Sassamansville Fire Company. John was a Korean War Army veteran, enjoyed hunting and golf and was a sports enthusiast. John worked for 34 years for AD Moyer Lumber. After retirement he worked for 16 years at Kulp Car Rental.

Surviving are daughters Debbie L., wife of Russell Wergin and Cindy A., wife of Ron Moyer; grandchildren Tammy Antush, Steven Antush, Kristin, wife of David D’Aiello and Kyle Moyer, husband of Lauren; and grandchildren Brayden D’Aiello, Kalei D’Aiello and Avery Moyer. Along with his wife and parents he is predeceased by his daughter Linda D. Hilbert and sister Erma Mathias.

A funeral service will be Thursday, April 12, 11:00AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 1020 E. Phila. Ave., Gilbertsville. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Sassamansville. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30AM to 10:45AM at the funeral home.
