Rock the Block cleanup is Saturday

-

POTTSTOWN » Rock the Block, one of the largest one-day community improvement programs in Pottstown, will take place this year on Saturday, April 21.

Now in its third year, Rock the Block is a project of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties (Habitat MontDelco).

This year’s event will bring together 200 volunteers and a dozen organizations working on more than 20 projects to beautify public and private properties.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rock the Block volunteers, including 50 students from The Hill School, will complete gardening, carpentry, painting, and spruce-up projects at 21 properties on the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of Beech, Chestnut and Walnut streets.

Work will include projects at two homes, located at 439 and 629 Walnut St., Habitat MontDelco is rehabbing.

Volunteers will also complete work at two homes where Habitat MontDelco is completing Critical Home Repairs.

The event is in conjunction with Pottstown CARES community cleanup day, a partnership of The Hill School, the Borough, the Pottstown School District, Montgomery County Community College, Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, Lowes and Habitat MontDelco.

CARES volunteers will be distributing flowers to residents, doing work at the Ricketts Center, planting tree seedlings and will be cleaning up Armand Hammer Boulevard and the area around Pottstown High School.

In addition to the Pottstown CARES organizations, Rock the Block enlists volunteers from Genesis Housing Corporation, Matt Green at Glocker and Company Realtors, Mosaic Community Land Trust, Phillies Fire Company, Pottstown Fire Department and Victory Christian Life Center.

Among those planning Rock the Block was Pottstown Community Action, a dedicated group of individuals who live in and around Habitat’s

Neighborhood Revitalization zone.

“These residents are passionate about making a positive impact in their community. They’ve been meeting every month and they identified a clean community as priority one,” said Marianne Lynch, CEO of Habitat MontDelco.

“Rock the Block exemplifies what can happen when residents drive change; they inspire others to care.”

The mission of Habitat MontDelco is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat constructs homes for affordable home ownership,

preserves aging housing stock by completing critical home repairs, provides financial education classes, and revitalizes neighborhoods.
