Right lanes on Route 422 scheduled to close

LOWER POTTSGROVE » The right lane is scheduled to close on westbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchang­es.

Closures will take place on Tuesday, April 24, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., for sign removal as part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, PennDOT announced.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on westbound Route 422 in the work area because backups will occur. The schedule is weather dependent. Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor is constructi­ng new Route 422 structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchang­e; reconstruc­ting and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligen­t Transporta­tion equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.

J.D. Eckman Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish this fall.
