Kelly, PJP top Upper Perk in 10 innings

With two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning Saturday afternoon, Pope John Paul II’s Mike Kelly stole third base, then advanced home on a fielding error on the play to secure the Golden Panthers’ 9-8 marathon win over Upper Perkiomen in a Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division matchup.

For the game, Kelly was 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and three runs scored. Ryan Schwab was 2-for-3 with three RBI while CJ McCafferty had two hits and two runs scored.

Schwab pushed the game into extra innings with an RBI single to left field to score Matt Pinone from second base in the bottom of the seventh inning

Jack Cossa earned the pitching win for PJP, coming on in relief and holding Upper Perk hitless in the final two frames.

Robert Guzman finished 3-for-5 for Upper Perk while Trey Levingston­e had a double and two RBI. Justin Wornham was strong in the start, holding PJP to just one hit and an unearned run over the first 3-1/3 innings. Josh Piccaretta hit 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored batting out of the nine-hole while Carson Zuber and Connor Cleaver had a hit, a run scored and an RBI at the top of the lineup. ter. The Panthers bounced back from a 9-3 loss in the opener to claim a 9-6 victory in the second game.

John Crane’s 2-for-3, oneRBI showing was the highlight for Perkiomen in the first game. The nightcap saw Carlos Torres drive in two runs and David Smith and Sam Glavin each go 2-for-3 to make a winner of starting pitcher David Smith.

Softball

DANIEL BOONE 15, OLEY VALLEY 2 » Winning pitcher Caitlin McCrone went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Elizabeth Nitka doubled twice for the Blazers in their Berks Conference romp over the Lynx.

Taylor Henderson chipped in with a two-hit day for Boone (8-2) while Hannah Johns and Savannah Weller also contribute­d three-RBI efforts. BOYERTOWN 5, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 4 » The Bears broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a non-league victory over the Bullets.

Kylie Hertzler went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and winning pitcher Alexandria Schaefer struck out four and allowed just one hit in 2-2/3 innings’ relief for Boyertown.

Boys lacrosse

BOYERTOWN 12, GREAT VALLEY 5 » Brewer Johnson, Brady McFalls, Nick Moccia and A.J. Robinson each scored two goals for Boyertown in its non-league victory over the Patriots.

Carter Watts, Jonathan Mayan, Alex Axman and Skylar Wallace completed the Boyertown scoring. Moccia and Watts were each credited with pairs of assists. DANIEL BOONE 12, CONESTOGA VALLEY 11 » The Blazers picked up a non-conference win against the Buckskins.

Girls lacrosse

BALDWIN 11, HILL SCHOOL 9 » The Blues dropped their non-conference matchup against Baldwin School.

Tatumn Eccleston finished with three goals and a pair of assists while Giavanna Tabbarini had a hat trick for Hill. Jess Ciarrocchi scored twice and added an assist while Hannah Spease scored once. Goalkeeper Maria Sweeney finished with eight saves and registered an assist when she traded in her goalie pads for an attack stick.

Lila Tuckman paced Baldwin with three scores.

Golf

HILL SWEEPS » Teeing off in three-somes, the Blues topped Blair Academy and Peddie School in a threeway Mid-Atlantic Prep League match at Brookside Country Club. The Hill shot a 208 to best both Blair (217) and Peddie (236).

Drew Steinmetz was low man for the day with an even-par 36, followed by Hunter Ramee’s 39. Jack Murray (43) and Billy Gussler (44) also played well in a match marking the first time in recent memory the Hill topped both Blair and Peddie at the same time.
