Donald Jackson Ashenfelte­r, also known as “Demp” or “Apples” was born on June 6, 1927 and died April 18, 2018.

Don graduated from Collegevil­leTrappe High School where he met his future wife Edith Hess. He then went to Penn State where he was an integral part of the track and cross country teams. During his years at Penn State he and his brothers Bill and Horace were part of a National Championsh­ip team.

After graduation from college, Don married Edith Hess and moved back to the family farm to help his father. He and Edie raised a family and continued to farm until his retirement at age 70. He and Edie spent winters in Arizona.

Don was a lifelong member of Saint Luke’s United Church of Christ in Trappe, where he served as a deacon and elder for many years. He had many interests including golf, tennis, hunting and reading. He also enjoyed a good scotch as well as an exciting poker game.

Don is survived by his daughters, Susan Ashenfelte­r and Christine Becker; grandchild­ren Suzanne Becker, Virginia Diehl, and AJ Ashenfelte­r; great-grandchild­ren Nile Diehl, Harper Diehl, and Dean Ashenfelte­r; and sister, Jane Leinbach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; his son, Major Robert Ashenfelte­r, NJ Air National Guard; and his brothers Horace and Bill.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 27th. Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributi­ons may be made to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 200 W. Main Street, Trappe, PA 19426. Arrangemen­ts are by Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., Trappe.
