POTTSTOWN » The second annual Pottstown Climate March will be held Sunday, April 29, starting at 2 p.m.

The march will begin on High Street in front of The Hill School and a rally will follow at Riverfront Park, 140 College Drive.

Last year’s march attracted more than 300 participants.

After marching down High Street, participants gathered at Riverfront Park for a climate rally. The rally included speakers, children’s activities, educational exhibits, information tables from environmental groups, displays from ecofriendly businesses, and local food vendors, according to the event’s website.

Despite this success, “we have a long way to go,” wrote the site’s authors.

“Our water and air is still at risk, and we collectively generate too much carbon and other pollutants that endanger our earth,” they wrote.

“This year, there will be an even stronger focus on the young people in our community, for they are our future,” wrote the organizers.

“Students and families from the greater Pottstown area have been invited to come out, learn, and let their voices be heard. We want to help educate our youth about the threats to our environment and inspire them to stand up and become engaged in meaningful work to make a positive and powerful difference,” they wrote.

“We will have participation from Pottstown School District, The Hill School, many other local school districts, local businesses, local environmental groups, etc. The mayor of Pottstown, Stephanie Henrick, will be offering opening words at the rally followed by educational speakers. There will also be educational tables, children’s activities, etc set up at the Riverfront,” Desiree Peterman, one of the organizers, wrote in an email about the event.
