New Life pastor of 29 years retires, new pastor installed

-

POTTSTOWN » Rev. Charles Cedeno has pastored New Life Assembly of God, 902 N. Evans St., for the past 29 years. He officially retired Jan. 28. He and his wife, Peggy, often mention their early days at New Life, going in the door with $1.37 in the churches account and entering a building that smelled of cats. Much hard work had to be performed at the church then located on High Street.

Since then they have moved to several locations including the former Irene Boyer Home and the Walnut Street Seventh Day Adventist Church before finally finding their current location on the corner of Evans and Prospect streets, making this their permanent home. Pastor Cedeno told the congregation and the Assembly of God Penn-Del District that the Lord was giving them a building that would be mortgage free. Of course, they scoffed at the idea, but God did it.

During his tenure at Pottstown New Life Pastor Cedeno has championed the cause of Christ throughout the borough either spearheading or being involved with others in many community-wide events. Pastor Cedeno and his wife are sincerely wished a long and blessed retirement as they sail into the next chapter of their lives. We know God is not through with them yet.

Pastor Cedeno invites all in the community to come and witness the passing of the mantel. The Rev. Steven Warren Sr. will be installed as the new pastor of Pottstown New Life Assembly of God at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Rev. Jack Mason, adjunct presbyter of the Penn-Del District of the Assembly of God churches, will be officiating at the service.
