Rodriguez, Hobson lift Richmond over Reading

READING, PA. » Luigi Rodriguez homered and singled, driving home three runs as the Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 8-4 on Saturday.

K.C. Hobson homered and singled for Richmond.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Reading went out in front when Zach Green hit an RBI single and Cornelius Randolph hit a two-run single.

Leading 5-4, the Flying Squirrels added to their lead in the seventh inning when Miguel Gomez hit an RBI triple and then scored on a two-run home run by Aramis Garcia.

Starter Shaun Anderson (4-1) got the win while Tyler Viza (0-1) took the loss in relief in the Eastern League game.

Malquin Canelo homered and singled, scoring two runs for the Fightin Phils. Randolph doubled twice and singled, driving in two runs.

With the win, Richmond improved to 4-1 against Reading this season.

Littell, Featherston spur Rochester to win over Lehigh Valley

ROCHESTER, N.Y. » Taylor Featherston homered and had two hits, and Zack Littell allowed just two hits over six innings as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 8-0 on Saturday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Red Wings and a three-game winning streak for the IronPigs.

Littell (1-0) struck out six and walked four to get the win.

In the bottom of the second, Rochester scored on a single by Sean Miller that brought home Featherston. In the following at-bat, Jermaine Curtis hit an RBI single, bringing home James Ramsey to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead. The Red Wings then added five runs in the fourth and a run in the seventh. In the fourth, Leonardo Reginatto hit a two-run single and then scored on a two-run double by Jake Cave, while Featherston hit a solo home run in the seventh.

Tom Eshelman (1-3) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs and 12 hits in the International League game. He also struck out two and walked four.

The IronPigs were blanked for the fifth time this season, while the Red Wings’ staff recorded their third shutout of the year.
