2 officers, bystander injured in crash of police vehicles
READING, PA. » Authorities say a crash involving two police vehicles injured two eastern Pennsylvania officers as well as a bystander reportedly hit by flying debris.
Sgt. Thomas Fleming said the Reading patrol vehicles were responding to an officer asking for assistance on the other side of the city at about 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses said a patrol car and a police sport utility vehicle were involved in the crash.
Police said the officers and the third person were taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor.
2 shot to death in argument near Philadelphia
BRISTOL, PA. » Authorities say two people were shot and killed when an argument turned violent near Philadelphia.
Officials in Bucks County said a car with five people pulled up to a Bristol Township home at about 7 p.m. Friday and three people approached a group in front of the residence.
Police said a quarrel began between two of the men and gunfire erupted, killing two people. No information was immediately released about the victims.
Investigators found two bullet holes in the residence where five people were at home, including a 3-year-old.
Man pleads to charges in police chase fatal crash
UNIONTOWN, PA. » A man has pleaded guilty to charges in a western Pennsylvania police chase in which a woman was killed.
The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reports that 26-year-old Jonathan Switch pleaded guilty Friday to homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police and other counts.
Fayette County prosecutors said criminal homicide charges and one of two fleeing counts were dropped in exchange for the plea.
Authorities said Switch fled a traffic stop in October 2015 and swerved around a car, which was hit by a pursuing trooper’s vehicle, killing 66-year-old Bendetta Miller.
Switch, who will be sentenced May 18, was scheduled for trial Monday. Prosecutors had moved to bar evidence about a $400,000 settlement of a civil suit by the victim’s husband or questions about any discipline of the trooper.
Man killed by train in Emmaus, name not yet released
MACUNGIE, PA. » Authorities aren’t yet identifying a man struck and killed by a freight train in eastern Pennsylvania.
Norfolk Southern Corp. says a westbound train struck the man on the track in Emmaus shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Public relations manager Jonathan Glass says the mixed-freight train heading from Allentown to Birmingham, Alabama, used emergency brakes but wasn’t able to avoid striking the man.
The Lehigh County coroner’s office said the man was a 35-year-old Macungie resident, but his identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the cause and manner of death.
Motorcyclist shot, killed in Pittsburgh neighborhood
PITTSBURGH » Authorities say police responding to a reported motorcycle crash in Pittsburgh found that the rider had been shot to death.
Officers were called to the Shadyside neighborhood shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday and found 47-year-old Stephen Drake Jr. with a gunshot wound to the lower trunk.
The Allegheny County coroner’s office said he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots in the area.
Police reported finding shell casings in the street. No arrests were immediately announced.
