Perk School falls to Episcopal Academy in PAISAA semis

Perkiomen School’s baseball season came to a finish Saturday evening with a 5-4 loss against Episcopal Academy in the semifinal round of the Pennsylvan­ia Independen­t Schools Athletic Associatio­n (PAISAA) playoffs at Upper Perkiomen High School.

The No. 7-seeded Panthers (17-9) were handcuffed by Penn State University commit Isaiah Payton, who came on in relief for Episcopal. The senior struck out nine and scattered two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks in 5-2/3 innings of work. At the plate, he opened up the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.

Taylor Schaible hit 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI for EA while Mitch Pagano had two hits and what proved to be the gamewinnin­g RBI on a single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

For Perk School, Sam Glavin hit 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles to go along with two runs scored and an RBI while John Crane (2for-3) had a double, a run scored and an RBI as Perk racked up 10 hits on the game.

Zach Smith got the start and pitched into the sixth inning for Perk before handing it over to Marc Molnar for the final out. For the game, Smith was tagged for five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Episcopal went on to lose to Malvern Prep, 13-3 in the PAISAA Championsh­ip game back at Upper Perkiomen.

BOYERTOWN 10, NORTH PARKLAND 1 » Caleb Harrison headed a trio of multiple-RBI Bears as they rolled over the Buffaloes in non-league play.

Harrison drove in three runs for Boyertown, which rode a seven-run fifth ining to the onesided victory. Sean Sutterby and Nick DiCiacco each drove in pairs of runs while Tate Yergey had a 3-for-3 showing at the plate to support five pitchers combining on a two-hitter — Stephen Cisik getting the win.
